I thought Brayden Schenn's ice time last night was bizarre
If you look at the last two games, two games ago Matt Read's ice time was low when he played with Scott Laughton, and last night Schenn's was low when he played with Laughton
And again, as bizarre as it sounds but I give credit when it's due: Neither of those players deserved to have their ice time cut, and Laughton, while young, shouldn't have his ice time that low, either
I am not killing the coach, five games in. And I don't know exactly what metrics he uses to determine good play, and it's clear that his actual checking line is the fourth line. We can all see that from how he deploys them
But this thing with Laughton's linemates is concerning, because I feel this way about Brayden Schenn: I don't love the guy. But it's easy to see why his defenders believe that he doesn't always get the fairest shake, other than favorable zone starts
From the way Read and Schenn started the season, neither of them deserved to have their ice times low in the games that they were low, IMO - AllInForFlyers
i am too lazy to look but in game 1 it seemed like they were rolling all four lines, now not so much
I'd play Umberger & Schenn over Manning & White tomorrow.

I agree.
3 additional observations and things I would like to see :
1)- I would like to see B. Schenn back on the 1st PP unit.
The 1st unit are getting chances but nothing seems to be going in. Why change the 1st PP unit if they kept on performing and excelling last year, granted the 2nd PP unit is playing better though.
2)- Return to your 2nd line and 3rd line prior to the Dallas game :
Schenn - Couturier- Gagner
Read - Laughton - Umberger / Simmonds
That 2nd line generated chances and played great vs Chicago. Laughton and Read seem to click, I would add Umberger to that line or Simmonds.
3)Go back to your original lines that got us two shutouts and tweak our 1st line. Raffl off the 1st line. That 1st line has to get going 5 on 5 and on the PP also. A lot of dump and chase and Raffl doesn't seem to win many puck battles and can't seem to make quality plays/passes under pressure. Great shot when he has time and space though. A bigger stronger guy (Umberger, or Simmonds even if Voracek can go to left wing) on the 1st line would be worth a look. A team that scores 1.6 goals per game isn't going to win you many.
Umberger - Giroux- Voracek or Voracek - Giroux - Simmonds

Manning and White haven't played well, but interchanging L. Schenn, and Umberger with them, is re-shuffling the deck chairs on the Titanic.
It may be crazy, but I wouldn't mind throwing Laughton on the top line left wing for a game. Schenn to third line center. See what happens. - funmaster18
Moving Laughton to LW for a while is worth looking at. His faceoff numbers are awful and I think that's why Hakstol stops using his line late in games.

I have a feeling he would click up there with those two.

That's what I am seeing, and while I really don't want to be overly critical, I'll just own this: I didn't see what got Luke Schenn the hook, I don't know what got Matt Read his ice time cut two games ago and I don't know what got Schenn's cut last night, and I don't quite get what they are trying to do with Scott Laughton's line, because even if you want to shelter his minutes, he still is playing with two veterans on his wings -- it's never going to get easier in that league, and the coach certainly wasn't sheltering Brandon Manning last night
Again: I don't understand it, but that doesn't mean it's wrong. I'm just being honest and admitting I don't see what is going on in those situations
