I'd be fine with that.

Seems likely to happen tonight, although not sure who comes out for Umby.
Gagner or VDV/White

If it was me I'd pull one of the 4th liners for Umby.

I agree. To me it's a toss up between White and VDV. Neither are guys that just have to be in the lineup.

The Flyers need to start getting more traffic in front of the opponents net and start firing the puck and going for rebounds. This team spends too much time on the perimeter. As much as they could use a true sniper, they could also use an injection of both size and speed up front.

Rather have White. Need someone who will step up for a fight or get under opponents skin. Umby and VDV both have good 2 way play but Umby has slight edge over him for scoring touch.

laughton needs to be sent down and play 20+ minutes a night on the top line. his minutes have steadily decreased over each game. that doesn't help anyone. no point ruining him at this stage.

Yup. 2-2-1 is pretty much what your gonna get this season.
- BiggE

If they play the way they have been so far.. Ill be happy. They are not that great of a team.. need to continue developing and what not, but they havent lacked in the effort department. Thats a good thing.

I'd play Umberger & Schenn over Manning & White tomorrow.

I think they generated chances but just need to finish. Holding Dallas under 3 goals is pretty impressive. Before tonight they were averaging 4.4 GPG. .

As stated in last blog, not happy at the seeming ease Ruff was able to get good matchups for the Benn-Seguin line. They seemed to be out a lot against the Del Zotto-Manning pair and/or the 4th line. Learning curve, perhaps, but give all the factors: 5 days off, goalie making 1st start in ten days, facing a good Stars team with loads of firepower, it's a disappointing, but tolerable outcome.

Niemi had a great game, and deserves full credit.

Good time to have a short turnaround against a struggling Bruins team.
- Jsaquella

To be fair, there really are no great matchups against that line. There isn't any pairing I'd trust against them.

I thought the defense played horribly as a group. Flyers really struggled with the speed of the Stars.

trade him for a winger in the same boat as him if you can.

Missed the game so obviously take with a grain of salt.

Count me in as all in for giving guys like Manning the extended look. His case is a bit different as he perhaps doesnt have the hype of other prospects.

However in a rebuilding time those guys should get a longer leash, the ability to play through the learning curve.

There is no sense in my mind of playing Luke or MacDonald. Flyers know exactly what they have in those players, and it isn't good. Manning at the very least has a chance to grow and become better. Same goes for the other young kids who haven't tasted the NHL yet.

Any ice time taken by Luke, Umberger, MacDonald, LeCavalier is a waste. They will be out of the picture by the time this team is ready to establish itself.

I agree with the exception of Umberger. I think healed up he'll be a good veteren to have around in the lineup.

A lot of talk about Manning, but bottom line for me is their star players scored goals and our star players didn't in a 1 goal game.

No, but the Phantoms could really use him.

The coach and GM made a big deal of Laughton making the team, and now he's getting 9 minutes a game. So they either need to play him more, or demote him.

Yeah. Manning had a rough game, but 2-1 against one of the best teams in the league right now, I will take it. Could have played better, some guys could have stepped up, but I'm not too concerned yet. It was game 5 of the regular season after a 5 day break. It's not like they were in midseason, coming off a long layoff and poopting the bed against a bad team. They are still learning Hakstol's system and they need guys like G and Voracek to start scoring some goals.

Yep the PP in particular. If it were ordinary the flyers likely get a point from last night. It's bad right now. I have no issue with moving b schenn to the top unit but I keep Raffl on the top line for now.

Umberger better be in tommorow night. White the scratch. VDV brings speed and a strong forecheck and his PK pairing with bellemare works well.

I agreee in that I'm not sure why the middle 6 got jiggled up.

I'd go

Raffl-g- Jake
Gagner-coots-schenn
Read-laughton-Umberger
VDV-bellemare-Simmonds

never start your 3rd line d pairing to start a period. if the top pairing was out there that goal does not happen.

I thought Brayden Schenn's ice time last night was bizarre

If you look at the last two games, two games ago Matt Read's ice time was low when he played with Scott Laughton, and last night Schenn's was low when he played with Laughton

And again, as bizarre as it sounds but I give credit when it's due: Neither of those players deserved to have their ice time cut, and Laughton, while young, shouldn't have his ice time that low, either

I am not killing the coach, five games in. And I don't know exactly what metrics he uses to determine good play, and it's clear that his actual checking line is the fourth line. We can all see that from how he deploys them

But this thing with Laughton's linemates is concerning, because I feel this way about Brayden Schenn: I don't love the guy. But it's easy to see why his defenders believe that he doesn't always get the fairest shake, other than favorable zone starts

From the way Read and Schenn started the season, neither of them deserved to have their ice times low in the games that they were low, IMO

I'd put Umberger in over Gagner, though I did feel Gagner moved his feet defensively last night on a few occasions

I understand White's flaws, but I just haven't seen enough to make me think he's part of the problem -- yet. That could change
