2 goals or less in 4 out of 5 games. Small sample size, but methinks scoring is going to be an issue all season long. If the PP doesn't produce, this team is a bottom feeder. - PLindbergh31
Yup. The sad thing is, if you added two or three players with the right skill set, the offense could really start to click. They have nice players, but the mix is off. |

Welp, he probably wouldn't have made the mistake that Manning made that led to the 2nd goal, because AMac would have been retreating to his own zone to the point where he would have been in Mason's lap. |

Good news for the Blue Jackets: they only let up 4 goals to lower their season GAA from 5.0 to 4.4.

Yea. Manning may have been the main culprit out there but just because we put luke in doesn't mean it's fixing a problem. Luke would have made his share of gaffes trying to deal with the speed.
Bottom line is the GA hasn't been an issue.
It's been clear to me gudas is a superior player to luke |

I did notice that Gagner gets knocked off of the puck very easily.
One thing I really liked last night was Medvdev's 1-on-1 defense sequence against Benn. He was able to recover quickly, and use his positioning and speed/size to limit Benn's scoring chance. He's been, to me, our best defenseman so far, although that might not be saying much. - jmatchett383
Yes he has been a bright spot all season. i love how he tries to get everything to the net as well. Brayden Schenn IMO has been our best forward all year and the guy gets like 2 shifts the whole third period. Hakstoll needs to take some of the heat for this game. |

Exactly. B scheen been playing with meaning for once. Put him back on the top line |

I'd play Umberger & Schenn over Manning & White tomorrow.
I think they generated chances but just need to finish. Holding Dallas under 3 goals is pretty impressive. Before tonight they were averaging 4.4 GPG. .
As stated in last blog, not happy at the seeming ease Ruff was able to get good matchups for the Benn-Seguin line. They seemed to be out a lot against the Del Zotto-Manning pair and/or the 4th line. Learning curve, perhaps, but give all the factors: 5 days off, goalie making 1st start in ten days, facing a good Stars team with loads of firepower, it's a disappointing, but tolerable outcome.
Niemi had a great game, and deserves full credit.
Good time to have a short turnaround against a struggling Bruins team. - Jsaquella
I keep white scratch VDV....he offers little to no value. Manning is not an everyday nhl dman.
Glad to see shutdown seanie with his first goal of the year. |

Bill Meltzer: Flyers-Stars Wrapup, Flyers Gameday: 10/21/15 @ BOS - bmeltzer
Personally I feel Mason had no business in net last night against a team with the best top line in the league and goong for their 4th consecutive win. Neuvirth is on a hot streak, so this is the hand you ride.
I thought Hakstol's match ups were piss poor. I thought he made amateur errors in that regard. He needs to adjust to the game and not make the game adjust to him. With this said, after 2 costly Manning mistakes, he kept the match up. Manning should sit tonight in favor of Luke Schenn but I do not have much faith this guy will adjust. Manning isn't a former first overall pick in his 3rd or 4th season. He's a rookie playing on the wrong side of the ice.
Honestly, I'd play Umberger over Vandevelde. The PK looked shaky to me at times. I like Ryan White's fire and ability to go after a Russell or whatever if need be. White is a necessary player on this roster. |

I wasn't happy to see BSchenn abd Couts broken up.
Especially if they want to give Couts line more offensive zone starts and total minutes.
They had some nice chemistry developing.
Then I thought ok, Schenn with Laughton could be good, as Laughts was bringing some speed and energy.
But don't put Schenn with Laughton and not play them.
Right now he is overusing the 4th line and Laughton is losing out on his ice time.
Raffl vs BSchenn on PP 1 is less of an issue to me. |

Oh, Columbus. It's never so bad that you have to hire that a-hole
Can't wait until Ryan Johansen gets told that his ice time is gonna be directly linked to how many slappers from the point he blocks |

Manning was brutal tonight and made many fringe NHL player mistakes
I'm done with Raffl on the top line he doesn't do anything give Gagner a shot
Really the whole top line inclusive Raffl looks good it ONLY doesn't show on the scoreboard.AND if Hakstol is a bit more patient with line chances it would help as well. But agree that Raffl on PP looks a bit hectic and needs improvement but not

Torts coaching Hartsy should be fun. |

What we saw last night is what we had been discussing in the offseason. There will be other outcomes similar to last night this year. I understand an argument for removing Raffl off the top line, but can't see a better option. Maybe Schenn?
Not much to say about the D. Just haveto bite your tongue and wait a while until the youngsters are ready.

I would have rolled with the same lineup as the Chicago game. Including Neuvirth. I would have let Mason play on the road against Boston. He wasn't the reason they lost, IMO, just would have rolled with the hot hand, despite the 5 day layoff.

Mason wasn't the issue. You won't win a lot of games scoring only 1 goal. |
