I really, really wanted to be excited for this. But, based on the trailers I've seen, it's like Abrams just decided to take a loose Star Wars plot and make it a "modern day" generic sci fi flick. I don't think the 3 prequels were necessarily great movies, but they at least had the same feel as the originals. I'm not getting that vibe from the bits I've seen.

Im getting a little bit too much of a 'Hunger Games/Twilight' kind of feel. Trying to draw in the kids.

Will go see it of course, if for nothing else than just nostalgia.

Guys, before we go too far into these trade ideas, PhillySportsGay needs to bless them.

Absolutely. They know the "old people" will go see it regardless, and they want to draw in the new crowd. Just sucks, unless my preconceptions are wrong.

Kind of like what happened to the hobbit in my eyes.

Less focus on the story, more on the special effects.

Scientists at CERN are working on it. They discovered the Higgs Boson particle, but that one is giving them real trouble.

As a side note, I think you post more anti analytics stuff here than people post analytics. Obsessed much?

- Mononoke

When I see people here posting the fancy new acronym stats two things happen. First, I know they are misapplying them so I ignore the post. Second, I start to get drowsy.

PS: thank you for noticing my posts; sometimes I'm not sure anyone does

My buddy came over yesterday so excited to tell me he got us Star Wars tickets for that Friday. I didn't have the heart to tell him I couldn't care less.

I'll probably see it at some point (JJ is 1 for 2 on Star Trek themed action movies), but I'll hold off until the showings that don't include everyone cheering everytime they see a thing they remember.

Fair points, but I don't think Manning will develop into anything other than a fringe nhl player. I'd let Alt, or Hagg play some games and see how they look.

Having L. Schenn in and out of the lineup like a yo-yo serves no purpose. He is what he is.

- PLindbergh31

Manning is much older than Haag. I wouldn't want to ruin his confidence by exposing him to this joke

I actually liked both of the Star Trek movies. That said, I don't think they had a damn thing to do with Star Trek. Again, they basically slapped a franchise sticker on a movie, included the requisite names, and just made a random sci-fi space movie.

I wasn't a fan of into darkness. It's the same basic story as the first movie (Kirk rises to the captain's chair, Spock and Uhura have sexual tension, poop blows up), but with more badly written plot.

To each their own.

Again, it has very little to do with Star Trek aside from the names of the characters, but it was a fun movie (to me).

So I decided to watch all 6 with my daughter. What do you guys suggest as the best viewing order. I read a blog online that suggested:

IV, V, II, III, then VI.

They, like most of us, really hate part I but I'll probably include that between V and II because my daughter is younger and she'll enjoy the little kid, and dare I say it, Jar Jar.

But the theory is if you do this order, you still get the great reveal of Vader as Luke's father, and then the prequel is a long flashback before the conclusion in VI.

What do you think?

Dunno, there's some pretty dark poop in those trailers. Bodies flying around, people getting tortured... I was getting more of an Empire Strikes Back vibe from it.

That was the problem, too much Star Trek: they crammed three older plots into one movie that doesn't deliver plot well. Should have stuck to a simple A -> B story like the first one.
