Rielly Smith and Hamilton and Seguin would have.
There's nothing wrong with Smith at 3.4 million. - RogerRoeper
The price is average for his production, never disputed that, just not my style of player personally, gets knocked off the puck a lot and avoids contact at all costs but with the right linemates he has proven he can chip in 20-25 goals and 50ish points.
Seguin trade was an absolute quagmire and although Hamilton wanted out the return just wasn't there so yeah, management was trending downward and then went right off the cliff. |

Sounds like major denial from a BOS fan
Back to back 40+ point seasons in his first two full NHL seasons and $3.4 per is overpaid?
ooooooooooooooooooookkkkkkkkkkkkk
if he puts up 45-50 pts every year, thats a pretty damn good contract at $3.4 per
He dipped allllllll the way down to 40 pts in his sophomore season. Come on - FourFeathers773
Glad he's gone and it's not denial. He was a ghost many nights and plays very soft. Brad Boyes 2.0
You have to remember that Florida in its pathetic state had to take Savards 4 million cap hit in the deal. |

Pathetic state? We took it because we can afford to pay the guy the measly $250k a year it costs. The cap hit means nothing to us. I wouldn't wanna toss the word "pathetic" around when you live in such a glass house. What exactly is pathetic about us? |

YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!!!
You really think that an AGING DINOSAUR like Chara can make a difference? Think back to the 2013 SCF...that's right 2013 SCF...even then he was getting burned by quicker SMALLER players. What good is all of that size if you can't catch up to the player. They don't have a legit scoring line, they don't have a legit shut down defensive pair...they don't have ANYTHING. The Bruins will NOT make the playoffs this year...in fact they may be in the bottom 4 of the entire league. - Chisoxhawk

The franchise is pathetic. No fans show up to the games. The long and straight is the franchise should be re located. I feel for the legit fan supporters in Florida.
The franchise had to take a 4 million cap hit cause it only actually costs 250k, just so they can hit the cap floor. That is pathetic.

We were WELL above the cap floor before the trade. In fact, we don't have as much cap space as most teams do. We just sold out our opener... I'm not sure what you're fishing for here. But the Savard deal had nothing to do with us needing his cap space... Tallon took it because Smith will thrive in this system and Hayes will do for you guys what he really should have been doing here: nothing.
EDIT: So yeah, we have $7.5 mil in cap space right now. Subtract Savard and we have call it $12 mil- still well above the floor by about $11 million. So, I digress, what is your REAL problem? You're 0-3? 7 goals in 3 games (we just scored 7 in ONE game AND Smith scored 2 of 'em). Bad management? I get it. You seem to forget that it wasn't too long ago when your building was empty, too. The Bruins couldn't win. No one called for your heads. The hell do you care that the team is here? Seems to me you're just deflecting your anger because your team isn't doing well. I'd never wish relocation on a fan base. Good thing most Bruin fans are classy. |

Oh geez, this coming from a Leafs fan. Do we even need to talk about the Leafs failures? Bos was on glue for trading Seguin and Hamilton, but do you know what's funny about that? They should be on the Leafs!!
Giving Kane and Toews 10.5 million a year, superstars for sure, but will strain the cap. They already lost Sharp and Bickell to follow. I don't think they can contend anymore. |

Hey Man, sorry to get under your collar.
I just didn't like what Smith brought to the table last year. I felt he was soft and felt Boston needed to get tougher. I hope he does well in Florida. Considering they got Hayes, who looks brutal, I would maybe rather have Smith back.
As far as the Panthers, I don't believe they should have a team. I know that's harsh as your a passionate fan. I feel it belongs in Canada, a market that will sell out every game. This could go on forever but hockey doesn't belong in PHX for sure and hasn't been very successful in FLA.

Hockey can do well in PHOENIX, the Coyotes are in GLENDALE; an awful location decision. When we were in Miami, it was always standing room only. Always. When we moved out West, things got tough. We were always full when Bure was here and we hit the playoffs in 2000 or whatever, but after that it started to die down. We never drafted well, couldn't bring in good players, and finally people who were driving over an hour to get to the arena said forget it. We never had an owner who could cash the checks he was writing like we do now. We never had a Jagr. We didn't have a Barkov or Huberdeau or Bjugstad. We're just NOW getting there, and you see what it got us game 1: 19,424 people.
You can believe we shouldn't have a team all you want but... we're here and we aren't going anywhere for a long, long time. Neither are the Yotes, Hurricanes, or Predators. Expansion, not relocation, is coming to an NHL near you. |

Smith is a very streaky player and even in the Olympic year in which he scored 20 goals, he was on fire for the first 35 games and then disappeared for most of the remaining season.
Maybe the D side of the game the Bs demanded was too much for him and a change of scenery will help him.
But, he was a very "meh" player for the Bs, especially playing with a guy like Bergy and Marchand.
He and Lucic are the only two players traded since the Hawks series that I agree with.
I also wish the kid luck though, like all the guys we have had play here. |

The thing is, I like mentoining Seguin and Hamilton because the Kessel trade was named the best in Boston sports history. The Leafs were mocked and told Seguin+Hamilton would lead them to cups the last decade.
The Leafs traded draft picks. The Bruins traded Seguin and Hamilton at 21 and 22 after they already had proven themselves in the NHL.
The Bruins are a mess. The Leafs have 11 draft picks next June and had a great draft this past June.
Sharp and Bickell are supporting pieces. Chicago only trades the replacebable parts. Seguin+ Hamilton are not replaceable. They are early 20's core stars. |

Well I hope you are right. Florida has a good young team. Lots of good young players. If they can get the fan support they deserve a team, that simple.
