another good young player traded for no reason. - RogerRoeper
There is a reason, and his name is Cam Neely.
He is so self obsessed with creating an entire roster in his image he just ships out talent left and right for big bodied power forward types, regardless of perceived skill level or ceiling.
His ego is slowly wilting away this team, its just more sad that his executive orders to Chia pet got him fired but good for him landing in EDM. Make no mistake, the majority of those moves, namely the Seguin trade, came from the top (Neely) |

If you watched 82 games of Reilly Smith last year, you'd see vast stretches of the season where Smith was a ghost. With a cap hit of $3,425,000 this year, he's overpaid for what he produced in Boston. |

What about the previous season? He was terrific. and he looked real good in his first game in Florida.
He was a young player who predictably regressed after a very good breakout season. There's still no reason to move him.
Boston needs to stop trading young players so fast.
It's ironic all of Boston's fans thought it was hilarious Burke traded draft picks for a 21 year-old player. Boston now trades established young players in their early 20's after they've been drafted and proven themselves. |

So much hinges on what kind of a player Chara will be.
He's 38 and looked considerably slower last season.
He's also getting uglier.

He's not even close to being the player he once was. But he is a step above Irwin, which is all i'm looking for right now. |

gotta agree with this. From the outside looking in it may not make sense, but to any Bruins fan who has flung something at the TV watching him play (or coast, morely), it makes perfect sense. |

Ageing dmen are still useful (see Markov)... manage minutes, redefine roles. |

Sounds like major denial from a BOS fan
Back to back 40+ point seasons in his first two full NHL seasons and $3.4 per is overpaid?
ooooooooooooooooooookkkkkkkkkkkkk
if he puts up 45-50 pts every year, thats a pretty damn good contract at $3.4 per
He dipped allllllll the way down to 40 pts in his sophomore season. Come on |

(frank) that guy, he's as soft as baby poop. Good 50 point offensive player but he's terrified of physical contact. |

He's a good depth scorer but let's not act like Reilly (frank)ing Smith was going to lift the Bruins out of this. They got a 6'6 Hayes who was only a few points behind Smith last year and offloaded the Savard contract freeing up cap space. It was a solid move for both teams. |

I never said he was a savior and never said Hayes was a bad pickup.
Was simply disputing the claim that Reilly Smith is suddenly overpaid now that he was traded out of town |

Your mother.
He took the last month of the year when they were struggling to stay in playoff contention off.

He was overpaid the second was given that "show me what ya got" contract by Chiarelli last year. You'd think that would have put a jump in his step. it did not. We can argue all day about this kid. I was happy to see him leave. I hope he proves me wrong and has success elsewhere. |

The Bruins have an actual back up goalie now. If Tuuk is giving up 3 goals on 10 shots, and 5 on 19. Why is he not being pulled... He has not been on these first three games. |

Hayes hasn't impressed me at all but Smith never did much for me personally, as I said he can certainly produce points, which is what he gets paid for. |

Rielly Smith and Hamilton and Seguin would have.
There's nothing wrong with Smith at 3.4 million. |
