And peeps wonder why he doesn't comment anymore?
Every second post is "lol corsi" and calling him an idiot for making blogs with possession stats in them. What is the point in engaging with that? If people had constructive criticism I have no doubt he'd address it. - cygnus41
This is bs!!! I ve made "constructive Criticism" as have a dozen plus others. (Including people that hate my "contributions" and have zero use for my comments)

No, but I played and I know what I look for in a coach. You? - chimpira
Different sport but still a contact sport - coached as an assistant while I played in Europe professionally & have coached for over 15 years with junior teams & junior development teams in Australia.
Sometimes the group just doesn't do what it's supposed to do. Confidence is a huge thing both ways - being overconfident & under confident. I see this Pens group may have a little of the 'over' in them, not working hard enough & being outplayed/enthused. Giving penalties away can also be a sign of over confidence - not caring thinking the result will still be a good one in the end??? No discipline! But in this league who knows when a penalty is a penalty????
Yesterday's game Lange & 29er were very adamant about how well the Yotes started & bad the start from the Pens was. Not being ready to play is a players responsibility - the coach can motivate & scream & jump up & down all he wants but it's the player in the end that will decide how he plays.
If the coach had every player sitting down discussing Corsi before a game then there may be an issue. But surely he wouldn't would he.........? |

The Yotes had their own issues with penalties yesterday... THE PP of Crosby, Malkin, Letang... and fill in the all star!!!!...have been terrible since January!!!! Something is off and its not the talent level of these players!!! |

Can't fault the Penguins for not scoring in the 3rd. Nothing you can do about those 3 Smith saves. They hit a post.
Didn't you guys say the exact same thing after being shut out by Dallas? |

They seem to only stand on their heads when they play us. Niemi shut us out, the next game let in 6 from the Avs. I already posted the Most Fascinating Man in the World meme about this in the last thread. |

I think some of it has to do with Penguins shot selection and some of it has to do with player size. Our grittiest player in front of the net is Hornqvist. He is 6'0" 190 lbs, the one after him is Kunitz also 6'0" 195 lbs. After those two it's Duper who is probably done. We don't have the size that some teams possess to screen the goalie. I am very excited what Fehr can bring to the team - he is 6'4" 212 lbs. I have watched him bang in dirty goals for the Caps for many seasons. Too bad he is injured for a while. |

You don't need size to screen the goalie. Zuccarello often gets to the front of the net against teams like Anaheim and LA and creates havoc. It's all about willpower and mindset. |

Is it that Niemi and Smith played all-word or that Sidney Crosby played the most disinterested and least offensively threatening hockey of his life?
You guys have been whining how invisible Crosby has looked. How he has zero shot attempts and looks like he's gliding out there. And then when you get shut out and only put up 1 goal on a team that should be a bottom 3 team in the league, you go to the "but their goalie was really good" excuse? Can't have it both ways....
All this new and shiny depth and the Penguins continue to be a team where if Crosby and Malkin don't do anything, then the entire Penguins team doesn't do anything. But please, keep blaming it on the other goalie being hot. You always have an excuse. |

Mike Smith is a topnotch goalie. I would put him in Lundqvist's company. Anti Niemi, not even close.
Mike Smith has carried this team before and he will continue to do so. He doesn't have much help. What will be interesting to see is how Tuuka Rask plays with a d-core as bad as Arizona's. |

Make no mistake, Mike Smith is NOT in King Henrik's category. Absolutely not.

You don't understand my man, each game is it's own sample size. Sample size is used when all conditions & the environment are the same. Just because it's the same game doesn't mean each game is the same.
If you are formulating data from more than 1 game it becomes an average result. Averages give you little detail especially if you are talking a dynamic subject. - Aussiepenguin
I understand that just fine. It's just that a player's Corsi for one game isn't a useful stat. I don't think there are any one-game stats that can even begin to give someone that didn't watch the game an idea of how well a player played. When talking about how a player played in a particular game, the only thing you can really do is talk about the actual hockey that was played. |

Other guys all do to a certain extent. I think it was due to Ryan pushing Analytics to a group that doesn't want Analytics. There are people on here that love the numbers but a lot don't & made that known, so I think rather than get frustrated Gunner just stopped replying to everything. It would be very frustrating spending time on articles then have them pulled apart because some don't like the subject matter, easy way to become an angry sob at home.
RW is a numbers man & who knows what he is pursuing outside of HB. He gives us all a new blog every day & good luck to him in whatever he is trying to achieve outside. We can get used to talking shyte to each other! |

So, are the Rags fans feeling good for the season ahead? 3 for 3 so far with impressive wins over CBJ and a close one vs the Hawks. Ain't too shabby.
BTW, watched the Caps-Devils ... Even though the Caps won, they still have some work to do.

I'm not talking about other teams penalties, we need to be more disciplined & it's a sign of the mentality when we can't be!
I still laugh when I think about JR's response about the physical side - we will get the penalty & we will make them pay by scoring on the PP. Blow it out your arse JR that won't happen the way you are saying it will!! |
