Devils might be worse than us. Why would they ever do that?

I think Mike is wrong about this ELC crap
- the_eye

i think Mike has it right.

His contract will slide based on age (19) and playing less than 10 games in the nhl. Unusual situation because most guys are just returned to the CHL.

Tatar in Detroit is example of this.

Totally agree - but we'll see if they made the right choice in about 2 months

I'm not one of the 'Bozak is useless' group admittedly. I like him actually. I think he could be a very useful piece of a winning team in the right role, but I do feel he needs to get dealt at some point. Having said that, no way I would want to take a worse contract and one year older player like Zajac back for him. If the Devils are dumb enough to give us a 1st rounder in that deal, then maybe. We could always buy him out if worse comes to worse.

True. Now, can you give us Silvferberg back please?

Lotsa people reporting a trade in the works of Bozak for Zajac. That would be so funny.

oh gawd.

Among forwards, Zajac has to be on one of top 3 worst contracts.

need a pretty big incentive going to the leafs to make that palatable.

I think those conditions are based on pro games, not NHL games. So playing in the AHL and maybe even the ECHL would count towards that 10 game limit.

Don't know if I'd go that far. One of each is enough for me.

See Tatar:

it's nhl games. Slide rule applied to Nylander while playing 38 games in the AHL last year. Same rule applies to him this year.

Gardiners is my whipping boy....not a fan of guys who play D but have zero defensive game

Just my opinion

I just exaggerated a bit - would 2 Bozaks been better?

what contract is he playing under now? if not his entry level?
isn't that for going back to junior?
do you mean burn a year for free agent status?

- the_eye

You are right. AHL seasons burn a year of entry level contract. So last year's half year also burned a year.

What it doesn't count towards is the seasons played until UFA status(I think it's 7 seasons or X seasons for players over X age, the second of which won't apply to Nylander).

I might have been wrong regarding Nylander last year as Cap Central shows he still has 3 years left of ELC. But Connor Brown for example has played one season AHL and he only has 2 years left of ELC.

Still...can the sens get him back please?

Here are some quotes about Zajac:

There’s more than one NHL exec who thinks Lou Lamoriello would love to get his hands on Travis Zajac.
- Elliot Friedman 30 throughts

...how many people not named Lou Lamoriello would want to trade for Zajac, unless perhaps they were getting rid of a shaky deal themselves?

This report isn’t so hard to believe, but Maple Leafs fans probably don’t want to fathom it.

it's based on age. 18 and 19 years in the AHL are under the slide rule; so they don't burn a year of their elc deal if they play less than 10 nhl games.

rarely seen because generally speaking, most 18 and 19 years are not eligible for the ahl.

26 - LW JVR
25 - D Gardiner
24 - C Holland, C Kadri
21 - D Reilly, RW Brown
20 - LW Gauthier
19 - RW Kapanen, Nylander (looks strong + off ready)
18 - C/RW Marner

Leafs are starting to restock the cupboards .... but anyone else think JVR + Gardiner should be moved - either now or waiting 2 years before their contracts are coming to final years. Also, if the leafs do see success in the first few years of this rebuild - like the Sens did - it'll only delay + hurt the quality of player they get. Unless you have superb scouting (?) and development (check)

Where the Leafs are right now as a whole organization, it just makes sense to send Nylander down, for all the reasons mentioned. Let's say even if by the end of camp he's playing like a bona fide top six NHL player, I'd still send him down as a team move.

If he's utterly destroying in the AHL later this season, I'd still keep him down...it's deliberately tanky, but in a cap world and with the pick flipping on UFAs the Leafs appear to be planning again, it's for the best.
