I'm in the process of deciding which wine club I want to join (and how often I want to be blitzed: Being a Leafs fan I may have to opt for daily delivery!)...

Life is tough...

Chimney Rock if you're rich. They've got like 6 different Cabs and they're all delicious, but not cheap.

If your poor then do the wine tour through downtown Napa. There's about 20 wineries that rent space to taste their wine and while they're not all good you can find some excellent ones. Mason Cellars was a standout and dirt cheap.

Nope. Hands down Bossy was the best pure goal scorer ever. It's not even up for debate.

Top forward ever Gretzky. Ppg leader. More assists then anyone has points. Played with his share of back problems too.

Orr best dman, arguably best player ever. Faster then Gretz and Mario, could kill penalties which neither Gretz or Mario could do. PP quarter back and could and did fight. Numerous vids of him killing a penalty pretty much by himself and then getting a short handed goal to boot.
Wreckless abandon caused him to have blown up knees and still played light years ahead of anyone else at the time.

Mario was a remarkable player, no doubt.
In top 3 of all time, 3rd to be exact.

If you think Mario is more talented or a better player then Orr or Gretzky then you are not old enough to form a valid opinion.

Do you guys actually look at the stats?

Gretzky has more points per game than ANYONE in both the playoffs and regular season. Bossy was a good scorer, 9 50 goal seasons is sexy. I would honestly say Brett Hull is better. Gretzsky scored 80, not 60 and was the better goal scorer than both.

9 consecutive 50 goal seasons. I said he was the best pure goal scorer. The other guy was saying Mario was. I said nope it's Bossy.
Gretzky was best offensive player period. No room for debate as you said his stats prove that. All around player is Orr. He played both ends of the rink and completely dominated the ice. No one could match his pure all around hockey skill.

Fair enough. Gretzky had 8 consecutive 50 goal seasons four of them 70 or more, Bossy never hit that mark once. My opinion is greztky doesnt get credit as a pure scorer cause he changed his game, but he is and was the best (yes, better than Orr IMO).

I think Vantel is right and here is why: DURABILITY.
There is a reason why I think Seguin is better than Taylor hall (Tyler>Taylor)
andit's very simple: Taylor Hall is reckelss and not as durable. I think he might be the more talented guy, but he is going to get hurt cause he plays physical game.
Similarily, Gretzky played a game that allowed him to stay healthy, Mario was often injured because he played more physical. Points per game are interesting, Mario's is actually not as high as you might think because his comeback dropped it quite a bit. I'd take Gretzky 10/10 times, why? because he will play 82 games and 24 playoff games healthy, and likely win.

That and Mario didn't have Cement head protecting him.

The 'Season Ticket Holder' thing makes us suspect that you might be a mole.

Would you like to see Hansen on the 1st line with the Sedins?
Is Higgins 2nd line material?
Is Nucker a Canucks fan or a Flames fan?

Seen them both live many times as well as Orr and I would rate them this way:
Gretzky the greatest of all time

Orr the greatest dman of all time

Lemieux tremendous player and biggest winer of all time

Gretzky and Orr hands down the best I have ever see and by that I mean these guys had you standing in your seat!

A little bulk can be trimmed (rumors that pant and chest protector reductions may be implemented next season) but you certainly can't shrink it that much.

I'm a beer league goalie with decent equipment (pro level chest protector and leg pads). I played for 2 hours last night. I ended up bad bruises on my ribs, biceps, wrist, thigh, took a shot of my clavicle I was sure caused some decent damage and ended the game with a minor concussion.

The only way goalies would allow gear to be greatly reduced is if the players are forced to go back to the wood sticks. Now, almost any NHL'er has a decent wrist shot.

While heavy slap shots garner most of the attention, it's amazing how much a solid wrister can hurt - especially if you're not perfectly square.

So fck it then?

I don't agree, or I don't want to agree. Public opinion is still a thing and a pretty powerful one at that. As much as all the politicians hem and haw and declare they stand for this or against that, they basically just want to get reelected and if we make enough noise they'll hear. And if it becomes a hinge issue they'll act. It's not like this is the first election where we are choosing between a puppet, a mannequin and a ventriloquist's dummy. We just need to get off our asses and start pulling the strings. In the end they'll do what we want if enough of us demand it, otherwise they'll get voted out and have to start working for a living. That's democracy, and as easy as it is to become cynical, it's more or less the same as it has always been.

Naive optimistic rant over.

Agreed. He's far too young to give up on. Needs to put in a stronger and more consistent effort this season.

Gretzky not just had Cement Head protection but league protection as well (no hit Gretzky rules). Gave him way more space to work with that's why what Lemiuex accomplished in the clutch/grab era is even more impressive. Howe, Hull and even Messier deserve mention when talking about Gretzky or Lemiuex...but ultimately they all fall under Orr.

Orr is the greatest all around well rounded hockey player that ever has laced up a pair of skates regardless of era. He was pure in all facets of the game where Gretz and Lemiuex and many others had shortcomings. I would put Lemiuex ahead of Gretzky but it's close. But they both couldn't pack Orr's lunch on their best days..and it's not close.
