i dont know why people have a problem with that rule

if it didnt exist all the best players would be poached from the CHL early, lessening the QoC of the CHL, and ultimately lessening the quality of product they produce.

- Dozzer

2 reasons:

- it's not in the best interests of individual development of Canadian players - it gives an advantage to young European kids.

- I don't really give a flying Franson about helping out CHL teams at the expense of the players. The entire Canadian junior hockey system is so effed up beyond belief, but hey, we win Olympic golds, so if you criticize it in any way, I'm just a skirt-wearing poodle-walker - and unpatriotic, too.

i think marner has looked just fine, hes not mcdavid, but hes still a very special prospect. He set up Soshnikov a lot last night. Nylander though, right now looks friggin awesome.

My thought last night was he needs to get a lot bigger. He's just too frail at this point.

Where's that sucker anyway? KHL?

think so

just an example of how crappy a team Nonis built.. non NHL players making the team

these PTOs are great.. fill the team with players who can actually play in the NHL

Timashov, Soshnikov, Nylander

Quite impressed with our Euro scouting - are those all Bergman picks?

- twiztedmike

Soshnikov was a free agent signing last year. Hunter orchestrated that one primarily

Nylander was 100% a Bergmann pick

No clue about Timashov, but he looks like a solid pick for a 5th rounder

Soshnikov not a draft pick... Hunter Said to be directly responsible for him signing.

Couple new euro guys (but added after draft )

Also timashov picked out of the q.

If we can get 2 skilled prospects like that per year the Leafs will be fine in the long run

I hope the KHL poaching continues. Radulov would be a great haul for the Leafs next year.

its not about helping the CHL team

its about helping the players

if you poach all the high end talent.. the guys coming into the league end up playing just mediocre players, so after some time, they arent learning as much OR being pushed as hard, which ultimately would lessen the quality of player being produced in canada.

also, if the canadian system is so f'd up, how come it is still EASILY the main pipeline for talent to the NHL?

For sure, which is why i don't get the chirps about flipping guys at the deadline for 3-5 round picks. The more of them we have, the better chance we have at acquiring talent in those rounds

No doubt there's more young guys like Soshnikov that we haven't even heard of. We lose nothing by bringing in these guys and giving them a shot. If even one turns into a solid player, that's a win

It's not just that. CHL teams get paid by NHL teams to develop the players they draft. A lot of teams wouldn't exist without that money.

Maybe each NHL team should be able to make one 'exception' to the general rule. At worst you have 30 19 year olds playing in the A' rather than the CHL. Keeping in mind that all those decision makers have an invested interest in doing what's best for the development of the kid.
