i think his PTO was just LL Cool J giving him a chance to show off what he has left so he could possibly land a job in a Euro-League
- Dozzer

Yup. One last chance to show what he can do.

I remember last year I thought Leivo played well enough to make the team. Shows what the new blood thinks of him to cut him loose
- lotempio8119

Last year he did make the team. Got injured, and lost his spot to non-waiver exempt veterans

That was his best chance, he'll be an AHL lifer now.

But those kinds of guys (along with Frattin, etc) are guys you call up for injuries. Leaves the high skill prospects where they are to keep consistent

Bibeau is a good goalie.

I like the young guys they have on the marlies. Both seem to have good positioning and have good size.

Both have put up nice numbers early on as pros.

Marincin and Hunwick over Polak imo
Polak as your 5/6/7/gtfo

- senstroll

Already...after 3 pre-season games?

If McCarron can get his skating improved, you might have something there.

I like the grit Fraser can bring to the D, but is there a place for him?...Robidas, Hunwick, Marincin,Granberg....
- jimi james

Gord was saying last night that they signed him to an AHL contract.
Me thinks Gord made a mistake last night.

Fraser effing stinks!

He stunk in his last run with this club, and he stinks now.

Get that idiot out of here

He really didn't do any favours with the season he had last year. His numbers last year weren't as good as rookie year.

I agree with Polak..he moves good for a big man ( which helps him in fans eyes..can hit/blocks shots...sure he's meh but...he can play a role)

To be honest if Gardiner would keep his feet moving once he retrieves the puck in our zone...he'd be way better off....I find he gets to the puck and then shuts down the feet and the other team just man handles him...I'm hard on Gards because I see all the "oh my gerd he's such a good skater" but in fact he's not a good D - he's like EK without the offense - maybe MB will be able to get him going..we will find out soon enough.

- Garnie

Gardiner with half a season in the MB coaching era will be what I need.

Its so hard to get a clear idea of the Leafs D since RC had them dummied almost every game playing 40% hockey.

even in the rookie games he wasnt dominating

i want him back in junior this year.. without fail

the up in the air part for me is what to do with him the following year

he's either a knight or a leaf.. no marlies due to the age thing. my guess.. the knights again.. not because thats what the leafs want.. but its better than rushing him which is the only other option.

Keep in mind I don't know Leivo from a hole in the wall, but I'm guessing that a large part of this is that he doesn't have to clear waivers.

Fans may not think it is fair, but from an asset management point of view, it does make sense to ship down a younger guy and keep an older guy on the team - thereby retaining both assets.

IIRC, Frattin would have to clear waivers.

I loved him as a 6-7 dman his first year.

But he never looked the same after getting his head crushed.

I wish him well - on another team.

after pre-season he is going to retire and become the leafs "how to take a puck or stick in the face and keep playing" coach

well hunwick has 300+ NHL games
Marincin is a mystery.. but the leafs traded for him in one of those undervalued players you try to dig out of a crappy org who misused the player despite decent underlying stats

Polak will give you what you see, no flash but tough minutes against the opposition.

The real key is that Hiller and Babcock use Rielly and Gardiner on PP unit one and leave Phaneuf on the bench.

Those two will be the key if Babcock's influence rubs off on them.

It will never, ever happen, but I'd love to see the Leafs put him in the SEL for a year.

Shoot a nice big cannonball across the bow of the CHL.

But yeah, will never, ever happen.

Ironic with with all the hate, bur Fraser and Franson were our best pairing for a few months during the lockout season. I guess that says something. ..
