Yes, but I believe the official response from the NHL is:
"Yeah, they suck, but at least they aren't as bad as NFL pre-season games!"
For years, I gave away my exhibition tix without ever going to a game.
That's changed a little in years past - it's not so bad if you have perspective. A chance to go down and see some guys who won't make the team, but you want to get an idea how they are developing (I watch no junior hockey, and very, very little Marlies).
If you go down with a buddy and chug a few overpriced beers, it's not too bad.
But, of course, I've already paid for the tickets. I can't imagine anyone actually paying for a pre-season game if they didn't have to.
Hell, last year I took a certain drunken Hockeybuzz regular to his first Leafs game at the ACC. He probably doesn't remember it, but he seemed to have a good time. - Atomic Wedgie
I remember. |

last night? nothing glaring.. like i said.. gardiner just needs to be coached on the defensive side of things.
but until he plays a strong defensive game (or at least not be a liability) consistently I just cant bring myself to call him a good d-man
good skill, not great smarts. I am more than willing to be swayed on this.. i am actually hoping to be - Dozzer

He hit two that day.
Although I must confess I didn't give two poops about the Jays until about 1980. |

Probably.
I don't think they saw any glimpses from him in these games so far.... And he was pretty much non existent after being sent down last year.
I would have thought maybe he last longer than frattin. Pretty much same boat. |

gards has a ton of skill
and when the puck is on his stick he is fine
its his play away from the puck.. and so long as he has more brains in that skull of his than say.. a fly on a pile of poop, babs will be able to teach him
i will bet Babs is looking at Gardiner as something to mold. - Dozzer
Guys like Gardiner will always look suspect when the team is on their heels and spending 60% of the game in their own zone. If Babcock can get the game evened out that'll mean more time in the Ozone and guys like Gardiner and Reilly will look much better. |

watch Gardiner's after game interview from last night. He was asked what Babs was telling him on the bench all game long. He said "just the small details, telling me about things I didn't even know I was doing wrong, like stick positioning and how to play along the boards."
If this is the case, and he actually learns and applies what he is being told, I can't see how his game doesn't improve. |
