Went last night. Amazing atmosphere. (Until Bird deflated the whole place that is)

My review based SOLELY on highlights of last nights game:

Gardiner and Harrington really need to figure out what the hell to do away from the puck.
Nylander can THREAD THAT NEEDLE. DAMN.
Habs suck.

watching Gardiner makes me wonder if he can tie his own shoes

Those games are pathetic. Can't believe people pay the full price for that poop show.

True story:

When I was in junior high, a buddy's dad had 3 corner reds at MLG. So me, the buddy and another guy got the "privilege" of going to a Habs-Leafs pre-season game.

I was stoked - we were going to see Lafleur! Umm, no, I actually wasn't.

The Habs had sent a team of absolute stiffs to Toronto - it was so bad the Leafs complained, so the Habs reluctantly sent a few more players down to Toronto by train that afternoon.

That game was the reason why the NHL created the rule whereby you have to have at least 7 NHL players in the lineup for exhibition games.

Good times.

i can't imagine it was the one game. it had to be common practice for teams in those days. at least smart teams. Lafleur was a chain smoker. he didn't need the extra exertion.

and they probably didn't want pre-season cutting into their summer jobs where they were actually making some money.

Its playoff baseball. You have to be able to win low scoring close games.
This is all new territory for the Jays, without Tulo, their line isnt as scary and other pitchers know it (even though he wasnt hitting well, his pressence is still missed).

But we'll see, the team is cold right now, as long as they get on a streak at the right time they should be fine.

Joeybats last night absolutely DOMINATED the field....what an arm. Hilarious that many wanted him gone earlier in the season because of his so called attitude.

Anyone besides me say "Jesse Barfield!" when he threw that ball from right field?

No one?

Oh, fer shure, every team did it.

This was just the worst example, and the Leafs took exception.

They brought in the rule that year, and specifically named that game as the reason.

Yes, but I believe the official response from the NHL is:

"Yeah, they suck, but at least they aren't as bad as NFL pre-season games!"

For years, I gave away my exhibition tix without ever going to a game.

That's changed a little in years past - it's not so bad if you have perspective. A chance to go down and see some guys who won't make the team, but you want to get an idea how they are developing (I watch no junior hockey, and very, very little Marlies).

If you go down with a buddy and chug a few overpriced beers, it's not too bad.

But, of course, I've already paid for the tickets. I can't imagine anyone actually paying for a pre-season game if they didn't have to.

Hell, last year I took a certain drunken Hockeybuzz regular to his first Leafs game at the ACC. He probably doesn't remember it, but he seemed to have a good time.

He was one of my favourites - until he dropped the ball.

I was at that effing game. Standing on my feet, screaming my head off, about to witness baseball history - the Jays about to win their first pennant.

Lazy fly ball. And then the effing Shaker dropped it.

They clinched the next day. I was not at that game.

I googled "Lloyd Moseby drops ball" and here's the first hit:

I have forgiven him, but I will never forget.

Habs maintained good O-Zone possession for good bits of the game. Nobody on the Leafs squad looked to want to get gritty in the corners and come away with the puck. I was surprised that the shot totals were that close after 2.
