He's been a really pleasant surprise, his skating has really improved...always had excellent hockey IQ. - LeftCoaster
He is also not scared anymore. |

I would let Vey and Sven battle out for second line left wing.
Let Gaunce and Grenier battle out for third line wing
Let McCann and Cracknell battle out for fourth line centre - VANTEL
I don't like that Bear-Gee is getting handed (seemingly) a top six spot, coaches need to tell him he's gotta earn it regardless of what Benning says. |

Development....having a place for kids to play professionally is so important for the franchise.

That is why I think he and Vey need to go head to head. I don't think you need 2 players like that on your roster trying to learn the game |

I like this battling business.
Willie gave a good little endorsement of Gaunce when he mentions him as a possible replacement for Higgins.
Looking forward to seeing the lines towards the end of the exhibition games, and these players you listed get a chance to show their stuff in the position where they would project into the lineup.
Gaunce usually looks like he is in position, not like he is scrambling, and McCann looks like he is a threat in the o zone, going to the net and drawing penalties.
decisions, decisions for the management group if this keeps up. |

Choosing Higgins ove Gaunce is nuts. Gaunce is the younger faster bigger cheaper. Trade Higgins or send him to the Comets

He has earned the shot, but he has to work to keep it his...
Isn't that where the difficult part arises, how much rope do you give a young player? Vey should have been scratched a bit more last season but WD kept him in the lineup.
Will BeeGee get the same treatment or will WD change his approach? |

I guess we'll see. What's great is that there suddenly appears to be options. |

Gaunce has looked good. Well prepared for camp and making the best of the audition.
Cheaper, younger, what's not to love.
Yes, it is nice to have some options, that is viable options instead of hail marys and hope for the best. |

Truth be told, if Gaunce could skate, he'd be a match made in heaven for the twins.

He isn't the fastest guy, but we have seen him beat some opposing dmen in camp, pull away for a breakaway...
He is no longer glacial... I think he looks slow because he is a big guy, if that makes sense. |

Imo the Sedins have to have a fast winger. How many times do they try on of the 150ft dump in because they know burrows would get there first. And then immediately start cycling. |

Some time and opportunity in preseason to get some different looks in for the Sedins line mate suitors.
But I don't see Gaunce as a match with the Sedins. Never saw Higgins as one either.
Chemistry is really important with them.
I think Grenier was with them on at least one pp last night and he looked like he was lost with them. Looked okay in front of the net and then moved out to the slot with his stick ready for a one timer... nobody in front and zero chance the Sedins were going to tee it up for him.
I can't see Gaunce with them, but you never know, he's got the hockey IQ, just not sure if he is enough of a finisher to be on their wing. |
