"If the right winger can be found, a top 3 guy with experience, but still in his mid 20s, there is a move to be made. One of the other top picks (not named Hall) is available if such a player presents himself."
So they might trade Eberle to get a player like Eberle? Makes sense. |
|
|
|
can't see the sense involved as they want a top 6 forward too.
I could see Ottawa shipping out a mid-tier prospect with potential or a D, but thats about it. They want an Eberle like player bad... |

Eberle is a great player who will have a great career, but they don't see him as the sniper type. He is more of a clutch grinder who can score of the cycle.... |

I was hoping the devils would pull a move to draft Konecny. The kid is going to be nasty |

Yup.. especially when he uses his 5'11'' 175lb frame. His near 65 hits are a testament to that. |

How do you feel about them taking Zacha over Provorov? - jmatchett383
I wanted Provorov to be honest considering whoever we drafted at 6 wasn't going to turn our team around overnight. Obviously NJ is loaded with young Dmen that are in the NHL like Larsson, Gelinas, Merrill, Severson. but Prov is clearly a impressive prospect + our D would be insane for the next X amount of years (ideally). That being said, with Zacha's size/speed/skill combo, he's what we needed to take. I just hope he goes back to Sarnia and dominates like he has to in order for me to feel like he'll be that legit #1 center that we need probably more than anybody in the entire league. Him sticking around this team getting scored on and not scoring much is not what he needs to be doing this year. |

I think that Provorov definitely showed some glimpses and his talent and skill level, but overall, he did not stand out the way that Konecny did in my opinion. He's an 18 year old defenseman, who in a lot of areas of the game, showed how raw he still is. I also disagree that Lecavalier looked much faster. He looked pretty much the same to me. He can't get on the puck to provide pressure, in any zone. He showed he still has good hands, but that's about it. |

I will never understand not drafting the best player available, excluding goaltenders.
Devils most certainly have a talented, young mix of defensemen/defensive prospects. No argument there. But taking Provorov would have allowed them to (potentially) move one, and I think we all know cheap, talented young defenseman are the rarest commodity in the NHL. You can fill other holes by overstocking the cupboard with quality prospects. |
