Do you think Vinny is soft because he's been hurt in recent years or do you think him a soft player?

I think Vinny's recent work is subject to criticism, but soft isn't the description that comes to mind.

I don't think he's soft so much as he just isn't good in today's game.

Anyone else think that a 7-year, $29M contract for a guy with 77 total games of NHL experience is a tad crazy?
- jmatchett383

Yes it is. It's the typical gamble by an NHL team that if they overpay early, they'll get a bargain on the back end as the player grows. The problem is that it sets the market for other players.

Injuries and age being the biggest culprit. He's not beating anyone to anywhere on the ice and is easily canceled out. Gagner is a small slow body with some definite skill. Think of a bit better akeson. Umberger was getting to the corners first on that line routinely last night and winning. Gagner was easily tied up and pinned by AHL and junior hands

Not a ton.

Basically, he's big and very "raw." He's on an ELC so he's likely back to juniors for 2 more years.

They're so bad together Tampa put up a poster to warn other teams what not to do.

That's my fear. If he gets this, then what is the market for Seth Jones, Hampus Lindholm, Brandon Gormley, Jacob Triuba, Olli Maata, and a variety of other young players who have played and produced more than he has so far? Heck, what is the market value for veterans like Brent Seabrook and Erik Johnson?

Flyers sign PHILIPPE MYERS

The #Flyers have signed 6'5, 196lb defenseman Philippe Myers to an entry level deal. He was on an ATO during training camp.

anyone have any insight on this kid?

Skates well for such a big-framed young player. Seems poised under pressure. Makes a decent simple first pass.

I agree, although I don't think Gormley belongs on that list. Brent Seabrooke if he wants to test free agency is going to be well paid, or he could take a discount to stay with the Hawks.

Gormley's only played 32 NHL games and scored 4 points, and just got traded to Colorado. Did you mean someone else?

Compared to a guy has played 77 games with a grand total of 23 points, I don't think he's all that far off. It's not like comparing him to Erik Karlsson. But fine, take him off if you want and replace him with any other highly-touted defenseman on an ELC.

He was paired with Sanheim last Wed at rookie practice. He was noticeable, in a good way. Had to look him up using your camp roster (thanks for that by the way!). He looked halfway decent. Seemed to retrieve the puck quickly and move it up ice. Definitely worth a contract.

I think they key difference is that the team who drafted Gormley five years ago just gave up on him.
