Guys.... Vinny scored in a preseason game.... his personal curse is lifted.

In all seriousness, anyone who watched, how did he look? I know it's preseason, but he should be working his (frank)ing ass off in those games.

- benjichronic

He looked exactly like last year. Umberger looked night and day better

Am I the only one that noticed, or was annoyed, that the Islanders had too many guys on the ice for the first goal in Allentown? I know it is preseason but it would seem like something the refs should have noticed when 6 skaters are giving high fives after a goal with the goalie still in the other net.

Not sure if I missed it in the blog, but any idea when we can expect the lineup for tonight's game for both teams?

It's the new PP method. Along with the 3-on-3 OT, the NHL now allows you to play one PP per game with 7 players on the ice.

Edit: In all seriousness, I did not notice this. Also, if the ref did notice the guys high-fiving, it's too late to call it back.

And I though AMac and gudas were better than awful but not good.
- Tfaehner

This is less than surprising, pretty much what I expected. Still, it's only one preseason game.

Let him go down, grow a little, and dominate. He'll make the team in 16/17.
- MJL

My argument is this. If he's one your best 9 forwards. He should be on the roster and it's a gm job to make that happen. With that being said it's a small sample size against a b squad. I'm nore excited about what the other flyers say about him than the game stats

Hmmm. Too bad about vinny. Was hoping he could rebound and play an effective role his last years.

Great to hear about umberger. I think I read on someone else's post that he looked like he had some good speed too. Is 15 goals, 20 assists realistic for him?

Hackstol didn't use it all game. Clearly he needs to learn the pro game.

That would be an outstanding season for him. Ultimately I think it'll come down to where he plays situationally and on a line. I'd say 10/15 would be more like an expectation and 15/20 would make me ecstatic 20/25 would have.me screaming praise hextall God of hockey

They were playing a playoff teams a squad and getting a lot of tough minutes. So it is what it is. Controlled third pairing minutes they might look a lot better. I didn't think L Schenn stood out at all for me. Manning actually did though thought he looked good. Like he belonged.

Whatever. Points aren't everything. At least we know he can play a good defensive game and get dirty on the boards

Not nearly as dirty as half of you (frank)ers on the "boards".

Anyone see what,I did there???

Honestly, I thought he looked pretty much the same. Unimpressive. Despite his past success, he's a player who has something to prove, and needs to earn playing time for the season. In my opinion, he didn't standout in any way.
In contrast, I thought that Umberger looked much stronger on his skates.

A high end penalty killer and gritty third line minutes would be perfect.

And I see I see

I was really big on barzal. I,wanted the Flyers to take him. Was extremely surprised to see how much he got passed over. I think that's gonna be a steal in a few years.

My prediction for this past years draft-best players
_eichel & McDavid of course
-provorov
-barzal
-kyle Connor
-Timo meier

- benjichronic

I think your list is spot on. I would have advocated something like trading Morin to the Oilers to pick Barzal or Connor at 16, and then draft Kyllington with our last pick in the 1st round. I think he'll end up being a steal.

I like Konecny, but I think Connor and Barzal will be special. The Islanders actually have a nice prospect pool.

I realllly wanted the Flyers to draft Pulock... but with that said, I didnt really notice him that much. He had an open shot at one point that was a laser right into Neuvirths belly button. Was an outtie, now an innie.
- jak521

He beat Provorov off the rush at one juncture as well.

Well, he had 9 goals last year in 67 games with a variety of crippling injuries and a revolving door of bottom-6 linemates, so I think 12-15 goals isn't wild expectations. So I think 12-15 goals and maybe 14-18 assists would be good for him.

Have to add in the factor if it being pre season, against pre season competition.

Me too. I still think he ends up better than Morin. But if Morin can at least be a reliable shut-down D with Sanheim and Provorov he'll fit nicely into the mix.

I still worry that gaffs like the one last night may be commonplace. If that happens I can see him being the whipping boy in a few years, especially if Pulock becomes an all-star.

My argument is that, even if he's one of your best 9, I'd prefer him to go back down to the OHL for one more year, refine his game ever more, and come back next year. That way, you save 1 year of his ELC, and, seeing as I don't see this team as a Stanley Cup contender right now, I'd prefer the Flyers to have him on the roster relatively cheaply when they are ready to compete for one.

And yes, it's just been one game against a B squad.

Ehhh ya know, I would love to have barzal or Connor in our prospect pool, but I really want us to keep our prize defenseman together. I would've been fine if it was hagg or something, but who cares. Draft is already done, looks like we have two killer proapects from it.

I think it's unreasonable to expect a young player like Morin not to make some mistakes. It really should be expected. The key is how does he learn from them and get better. That's what will determine how good he becomes. Pulock didn't really stand out last night.

Nak and Martel were flying around but unless they gain serious size I worry about a top 6 that would have to include Nak Martel and konecky a long with under sized guys like giroux. I don't see any of those players being able to fulfill a bottom 6 role.
- Tfaehner

Realistically you can probably only carry 2 of them in the top 6, and ideally would have another big, fast winger on the other wing for the 2nd line. Jake obviously brings the size on the top line. But if all three become solid players, and the odds are that only one or maybe two will make it, you could easily trade either Martel or NAK if need be.
