If that was true why wouldn't he have mutually terminated his contract to pursue a team who wanted him? - Tfaehner
If he did that, he was probably looking at a PTO situation with no guarantee of a contract.

True. The magic part was that he convinced another GM to take him as he's barely an NHL player, and has a terrible reputation to boot. - Scoob
I don't think the barely an NHL player is true. There's a lot of players who are not liked by the opposition, because of their style of play. I don't think an NHL GM takes that into consideration.

Just because he plays in the NHL doesn't mean he's an NHL player, at least not an adequate one. - jmatchett383
Seriously? He's 25 and is going into his 5th NHL season, and has played 223 NHl games. You may not like him as a player, but that does not change the fact that he is an NHL player.

Couturier has already shown he can be a number 2 center. |

Hard to have a big offensive impact when you're mostly deployed on defensive assignments. |

Imho, far too much risk for far too little reward.
Whatever, he's gone from Philly and I'm good with that. |

And Jon Scott has played 274 games over 8 seasons. That still doesn't make him a player who deserves to be in the NHL over a player with any semblance of skill. |

One of the many reasons Laughton as our 3c benefits us more than anyone else. Him and Bellemare at 3 and 4 provide guys who can play good solid defense and allow for a raise from his 2 to 1 defense to offensive zone ratio from last year. |

when? 37points in 82 games..hardly a number 2 pivot - jmdodgeser4
Look at this ES points and compare it to other #2 centers in the league. Then consider his usage, and matchups. He puts up solid ES point totals while playing a lot in defensive zone situations, and against other teams top lines on a regular basis.
There are 30 teams in the league. In the 13/14 season, Couturier scored 31 points at ES. In comparison, noted offensive players such as Jeff Carter, Nick Backstrom scored 35 points, H. Sedin 32, Kadri 32, B. Richards 32,
Last season, his point total dipped slightly at ES, to 29, that put him again tied at 59th among NHL centers, and that was playing a lot of the year with an ineffective Matt Read and Umberger
Play Couturier with healthy players, and in better offensive situations and see what happens. With how Couturier is used, his point production at ES is pretty good. Combined with his strong overall game, he's a #2 center.
Where he isn't good, is on the PP. He also plays on a unit that overall wasn't that good. Maybe the additions of Gagner and Medvedev can improve the 2nd PP unit, and Couturier can pick up some points there. |

Simmonds had 9 ES points in 287 minutes with Couturier last season.
Without him he scored 14 ES points in 670 minutes.

Wow. Based on this new assessment he should always be on the ice with coots read and mdz. Raffl occasionally flipped with read.
Not sarcastic.
Amazed to see how awful him and giroux were together. |

Whether you think he is a good NHL player, or if he deserves to be in the NHL in your opinion, is a different conversation. The facts are that Rinaldo is an NHL player.

Very limited player, pretty much just a forechecker and physical player.
