I don't know much about Babock so I can't defend that part!
But maybe they like his intensity behind the bench.. from what I've seen, Carlyle wouldn't move, wouldn't talk to his players during a game.. Babcock seems like the total opposite of that.. it might be the way he says things too.
Which boss would you want?
#1 - Why won't try this instead, maybe it'll be easier for you
#2 - Do it my way or GTFO
Maybe Babcock isn't like that at all! I wouldn't know.. but that's the impression i'm getting. Everybody seemed to love him in Detroit ...who knows.. - Delryk
The best thing I've heard Babs say, besides 'putting Canada's team back on the map', is that you have to coach 23 players 23 different ways. That's a total 180 from Carlyle. I fell in right then and there.....

Got it.
Babcock right now is the golden boy, he's never lost a game as Leaf coach. I am sure he is prepared, intense, a great communicator, works hard, has a steel jaw and great hair and makes $8 M a year. Good for him.
We will see if he can get this team to be a contender. If in 3-4 years we are still floundering for lottery picks the knives will be out big time, like they are for every coach in the history of pro sports.
But in the meantime, I hope the team works hard, competes intensely and leaves it out on the ice every night. - Rang
There will always be those who attack the coach - blame the coach REGARDLESS of the circumstances. Babcock has two maybe three things going for him that Carlyle did not...
1) the team hit bottom psychologically the past season - and EVERYONE fans. team management ,ownership and the players has recognized that publicly
2) Babcock was hired and signed with a player arrogance insurance policy - i.e. the amount of money he gets rivals the players - and he got term
3) because they sucked so bad last year - the make-up the team - the attitude will change
All great/good coaches get great goaltending - and Babcock doesn't have that yet. As much as the current season is about developing the young guys (mainly in JR or with the Marlies) it is about seeing what the goalkeepers can/will do inside a better structured system. This and along with evaluating what they really have in JvR, Kadri etc... are and will be Babcock's objectives for this season.
Whether he wins or loses this season really is of no matter in the big picture.
No one with a half an ounce of common sense will be complaining about Babcock for at least 3-4 years (so expect articles from Simmonds, Cox and Berger within two to three months... and of course DiManno - writing about whether he's too hard on those young developing kids).

My friends and I went through about a 5 year phase where we would scream for bands in bars to play Bon Jovi.
It was hilarious, because 99% of the bands would think they were waaaaay too cool and sophisticated to play Bon Jovi (for the record, I was waaaaaaay too cool and sophisticated to actually like Bon Jovi) - we were just doing it to piss them off.
Start of the night:
"Play some Bon Jovi!"
"Uh, guys, we aren't going to play any Bon Jovi."
Middle of the night:
"Bon Jovi. Bon Jovi. Bon Jovi. Bon Jovi."
"C'mon, guys. Settle down. We already told you we aren't going to play Bon Jovi!"
End of night:
"Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeow! Yeeeeeeeeoh! BON JOVI!!!! PLAY SOME FRANKING BON JOVI!"
"WOULD YOU IDIOT ARSEHOLES SHUT THE FRANK UP! WE AREN'T PLAYING POOPY FRANKING BON JOVI!"
