I didn't say that at all. Don't think Scotty Bowman played a game either at the NHL level.

Simply questioning the "credibility" statement by a number of players.

I don't know much about Babock so I can't defend that part!

But maybe they like his intensity behind the bench.. from what I've seen, Carlyle wouldn't move, wouldn't talk to his players during a game.. Babcock seems like the total opposite of that.. it might be the way he says things too.

Which boss would you want?

#1 - Why won't try this instead, maybe it'll be easier for you

#2 - Do it my way or GTFO

Maybe Babcock isn't like that at all! I wouldn't know.. but that's the impression i'm getting. Everybody seemed to love him in Detroit ...who knows..

I find it kinda humourous how the Leaf players are talking about how much "credibility" Babcock has.

Babcock: 1 Stanley Cup as coach, never played the game at NHL level

Carlyle: 1 Stanley Cup as coach, former Norris trophy winning defenseman

I get Babcock has Olympic gold on his resume and another Cup final appearance, but it's not like Carlyle was some guy who was coaching the Mississauga bantam selects.

Once again, I'll defer to Hockey Canada.

They could have asked Carlyle to join the coaching staff on several occasions.

IIRC, they never have.

Hope springs eternal. MLSE has been selling hope, very effectively, for many years.

exactly, and this time they wised up and didn't put a timeline on their demise. All they have to do is continue to tell us how much pain there is going to be, and how long this process is going to take. only business around that can increase support while promising a worse product.

I don't know either, but Babcock will get a few seasons to turn this thing around. I just want to have a good team that has a real chance to win. Not squeak into 8th and hope to get lucky, but a real contender.

Yes, it certainly seemed like Carlyle had lost the room, partly it appears because he let guys like Kessel get away with "cheating" in the defensive side of the game. That's his fault and partly why he is unemployed right now.

I think it's simple - RC had tonnes of credibility too then he coached the Leafs for 2 years. MB has a little more weight to his resume but that could get tainted over the next couple of years. Let's see. ....

Got it.

Babcock right now is the golden boy, he's never lost a game as Leaf coach. I am sure he is prepared, intense, a great communicator, works hard, has a steel jaw and great hair and makes $8 M a year. Good for him.

We will see if he can get this team to be a contender. If in 3-4 years we are still floundering for lottery picks the knives will be out big time, like they are for every coach in the history of pro sports.

But in the meantime, I hope the team works hard, competes intensely and leaves it out on the ice every night.

Even Marlies would be great. Tickets are cheap and their roster should be pretty stacked this year
