I find it kinda humourous how the Leaf players are talking about how much "credibility" Babcock has.
Babcock: 1 Stanley Cup as coach, never played the game at NHL level
Carlyle: 1 Stanley Cup as coach, former Norris trophy winning defenseman
I get Babcock has Olympic gold on his resume and another Cup final appearance, but it's not like Carlyle was some guy who was coaching the Mississauga bantam selects. - Rang
you gotta take it for what it is
A) they stuck their noses just as far up Carlyle's pooper 3 years ago
B) hockey players are, for lack of a better word, kind of stupid
C) it's preseason and right now it looks like we have 29 playoff teams (Edmonton, obviously) |

I think the Flames are due for a little regression
Giordano, Bodie, Gaudreau had huge seasons that I'm not sure they can all reproduce - twiztedmike
Can't regress hard work and strong coaching. I get that some players had strong seasons, but Gio missed about half the year, and key guys like Bennett/Monny/Gaudreau are a year more experienced. |

If the Flames dont improve on last season in regards to shots for/against I look forward to the articles about how they are just not working as hard this season |

Would you rather have Babcock or Carlyle as the Leafs coach? - senstroll
Babcock, my point is not that Babcock isn't a good coach, just the credibility statement I find puzzling.

I didn't say that at all. Don't think Scotty Bowman played a game either at the NHL level.
Simply questioning the "credibility" statement by a number of players. |

Hope springs eternal. MLSE has been selling hope, very effectively, for many years. |

Yeah I was surprised. I just assume it is because he was playing against half a team of AHLers

I think the fact that he has one at every level he has been at shows he is a good coach. I think what he has done in Detroit with all of their injury issues and still managed to get them to the playoffs, shows he is a great coach. But he has a long way to go to be classed with the greatest coaches of all time. |

I don't think that was his point. I this his point was Carlyle has as much legitimacy as a bench boss than Babs yet Randy never received the same level of respect.
I'll argue that Randy let the inmates run the asylum and it also helps that Babs is being paid more than anyone on the team. That takes that whole hierarchical structure from the equation of the coach who makes 1.5 mill a year talking to the spoiled brat hockey player who makes 3-5 times as much. Now the players realize poop, they'll probably get rid of me before they get rid of him......... |
