I think they deserve to play in the NHL no doubt. It sucks that they'll be forcing a rookie off the Leafs team. I think the Leafs need to try and package guys like JVR and Kadri together for 1 younger player with higher potential (another blue-chip) to free up roster spots and keep building for the future (we know we aren't winning a cup this year). That would free up a slot for a guy like Bailey, Leivo or Brown while giving the Leafs another powerful future asset. - twiztedmike
what if the Leafs are not the garbage fire everyone thinks (or hopes) they will be |

anyone having a half decent season will be dumped at the deadline and they will suck for long enough to miss the playoffs
i have little concern. |

I expect them to finish 24th or 25th.
They won't be as bad as people think, but they won't be anywhere close to good either.

A guy like Duchene but unfortunately O'Reilly was traded first so COL won't be looking to move him. The Isles might have guys they would part with. - twiztedmike
Kadri is like a few months younger than Duchene.
And I think we will see this season, the Talent gap is not very much either |

See Flames of two years ago. Bringing in vets and other players to push the rookies to either compete harder to make the team, or find somewhere else to play. Constant pressure and competition is good.
Flames vs Oilers rebuild, is the way I look at it. |

I never considered both JVR and Kadri. It is an interesting idea.
It would be tough to lose both, and almost certainly ensure a finish near the bottom of the league.
I wonder who we could get though. Even if someone like Seth Jones was available for that price (assuming Nashville would even be interested), the cap wouldn't work.
I think the cap would be a problem for anyone if what we want in return is a more promising young player. - Aetherial
I guess the Leafs could eat short-term salary (the rookie that would take an opened up spot would cost less) to facilitate a deal.
Its the kinda thing I'd want to see happen because we're just not ready yet.
Basically your vets like Boyes, Matthias & Glencross get bumped up to more minutes with JVR/Kadri gone, play more, get more points & get more assets in return at the deadline |

Excited to see DA KOMAGOD KICK AZZ!!
Also, kinda wanna see how Glencross plays. I think Boyes is the one who ends up making it. - twiztedmike
interesting... video clips of Boyes during the 3 day camp he appeared slow... it will be interesting to see if they keep him... certainly won't be a bottom six role. |

I find it kinda humourous how the Leaf players are talking about how much "credibility" Babcock has.
Babcock: 1 Stanley Cup as coach, never played the game at NHL level
Carlyle: 1 Stanley Cup as coach, former Norris trophy winning defenseman
I get Babcock has Olympic gold on his resume and another Cup final appearance, but it's not like Carlyle was some guy who was coaching the Mississauga bantam selects.

I think the Flames are due for a little regression
Giordano, Bodie, Gaudreau had huge seasons that I'm not sure they can all reproduce |

Would you rather have Babcock or Carlyle as the Leafs coach?
