Absolutely be persistent. I almost died because two paramedics thought I was "just winded" when I was 14. Turns out my kidney was in 3 pieces and I was internally bleeding profusely into my stomach.

Triage nurse and my parents saved my life. Parents insisted paramedics take me and triage nurse took one look at me and knew something was wrong.

Just kidding of course: those damn physicians have no license to claim a monopoly over the term 'doctor'. Besides, if you're a Philosophy PhD... You should be qualified to give full metaphysicals, no?

yea, and it's not even that they're incompetent or anything like that... its that they're swamped. If you don't have time to do your job properly... you're not going to do your job properly.

Short a kidney which isn't an issue. Just need to be vigilant if any pain/issues in the abdomen.

The surgery is what screwed with me because it was emergency surgery. I've had a bowel obstruction thanks to scar tissue from the surgery and damaged blood vessels in my lower stomach also gave me a cyst in my groin that had to be removed.

Oh and I've got a solid scar that runs from between my nips down to 4" below my belly button. It's my second favorite scar.

No doubt! I've been having gradually escalating symptoms of various types over the past couple years, it took a lot of visits and a lot of cajoling to get tests on the horizon, but I never lost patience with doctors and specialists who are just completely overworked and overburdened...
