I agree, But not for Drouin. I'm not saying it's a bad trade but we have so many other holes to plug as opposed to adding another marner/nylander comparable. I think JVR is overrated, i would move him in a heartbeat

What does it matter adding another Marner and Nylander? You're opposed to adding players that are highly skilled, and have the potential to be elite? I don't even think Tampa would do the deal straight up...and if they did, they'd end up regretting it in the long run.... to me Drouin has more value than JVR.

Because why not? We're in a rebuild...and JVR is only going to have his trade value decrease from here on...He's going to have like 40 points this season, without Kessel.

I don't believe his production will be that low. I could be wrong, but the prudent approach would seem to be to let the season play out... see how JvR is doing relative to expectations - and if you are going to move him, move him at/near the trade deadline, when prices seemed to be inflated.

If he has a good year (without Kessel) then arguably you have a stronger bargaining chip -and with his current CAP hit plenty of teams would be able to add him at the trade deadline.

He was 19 years old in his first NHL season....kind of takes time to develop a bit in that area, unless of course that is your niche.

Sure it matters. If the Leafs believe Marner and Nylander are the real deal they would want to use JVR to fill other holes. I'm not arguing about the value? is that what this is about who's worth more?

Why? We would need a winger to take JVR's spot, Lupul isn't getting any younger. Bozak will be gone. I'm pretty sure we need top 6 forwards. The defensive pool seems to be just fine for right now, unless you can score a top pairing right handed Dman. Goaltending will be fine with the new system in my opinion.

Okay, just to play devil's advocate here, for the guys who oppose the JVR for Drouin trade, what comparable young player <21 would you be okay trading JVR for? And be realistic......The other team involved would have to be willing to pull the trigger. So don't say McDavid.

That seems very doable actually. We need a young right handed top 4 dman and NSH is loaded on D and needs offense. Think they'd do it straight up? I would think we'd have to add or at the very least take back some salary.

i think JVR is a real solid player but his value as a player gets inflated in these parts by that contract.
