I'll even reverse it......put JVR on the Bolts in place of Drouin, and JVR will score more points than Drouin.

I would not do the trade straight up

- jimi james

playing 12 minutes on the bottom 6? Drouin played third line minutes and put up third line numbers.

in this scenario? if i'm Toronto, yes. makes sense to add another top-3 pick for a guy who has plateaued. for Tampa it's lunacy given their contract situation over the next 2-3 years.
- DoubleDown

I would not judge JVR's ceiling until the end of this season

that's great for him....IMO JVR would score more in the same slot and minutes

Last season, he did pretty much the same as Mackinnon... who had 38pts in 64 games, and Drouin had 32 in 70. Playing on the 3rd line.

And then we can trade him once his value is at its lowest Just like Kessel, great strategy.

Question is, do we need another small skilled player? Will Drouin be significantly better then Marner or Willie? JVR is our best asset right now, if hes moved it should be for a need

Glad you agree. Never said he was done. Said I would not trade him for JVR, and gave my reasons..

If you don;t agree, I could care less.

Well he played with Mac in Halifax during his Jr career. Never even came close to doing what MacKinnon did. Don't see him having a long career in this league.
- bixll

Well Drouin is basically the closest comparable to Marner in regards to scoring in their draft year.

Drouin will be fine, TB has no reason to rush or push him, he had a decent 19 yo NHL season given the time and opportunity.

I don't know if it's a good trade or not

JVR was a major 'bust' for a while.

Perceived that way anywho

Nobody is denying that, your argument is ridiculous. Currently, JVR is the better player. Drouin has more potential. That is why you would be able to trade JVR for a player that is still considered to have a lot of potential around the league. It's like trading Kessel for McDavid this season and saying Kessel will outscore him this year so don't do it....you can't see that?

Agreed, the last thing the Bolts need is another expiring UFA due for a raise.

The Babcock team game/system will make the rental plugs, and veterans that need a bounce back year (Lupul & Phaneuf) look better than they are. It might handicap a guy like JVR who is perceived to be a top line power forward.

I think that they will do better this year than last year...and with JVR, I think we only need one more season with Babs and without Kessel to really know what we have...this season compared with the Kessel and Philly years should be enough to know whether to keep him long term or not
