I feel like the leafs are the Cleveland Indians of major league. Except they won't surprise everyone and win the pennant. Gardiners gotta find his jobu this season or do it himself - TonkaPhaneuf

@JPNikota: Hearing Babcock be so confident that he can push and improve Kadri, Rielly, Gardiner, etc. is really exciting.

6 years, 27 million (4.5 cap hit). He gets overpaid for a couple years, sufficiently paid for a couple, then underpaid for a couple - GardinerExpress
That's a ridiculous contract for a guy expected to become a #1 this year or next. Saying 4.5 million is overpaid is like saying he's not a competent second pairing dman, because that's the going rate for those guys. After seeing guys like McDonagh and Pacioretty get hosed on similar deals, no way Rielly signs long term unless he's getting 6 million minimum. |

But he plays for the Laffs. Ergo he's site. Ergo he shouldn't get paid much (unless the Laffs do what the Laffs always do and massively over pay players |

Considering Klefbom got 4.167 per x 7 years, I think 4.5 for Rielly is fair.
Season - Klefbom - Rielly
2016-17 - 3.000 - 6.000
2017-18 - 3.500 - 6.000
2018-19 - 4.000 - 6.000
2019-20 - 4.500 - 4.500
2020-21 - 4.500 - 3.000
2021-22 - 4.500 - 3.000
2022-23 - 5.169 - 3.000
Cap Hit - 4.167 - 4.500
I like front loading for incentive, but I notice most contracts are back loaded. |

In this scenario, Reilly will be playing out his prime years while earning league average money. Possibly below league average by that time. If you're assuming Reilly won't be a top pairing guy, fine. But if you think he will be, he won't come this cheap. |

Gardiner makes $4m....Rielly deserves a minimum of $8m. |

If you pay everybody who has the potential to be a $6 million player $6 million per, you'll be cap bonked eventually.
