I have no idea, their numbers are really low but the current government in BC won't stop the hunt even though most would like it stopped...me included!!

But what about the Sea Otters?

I think JVs style energy speed and toughness will move Higgins out

one can only hope.
However, injuries will likely make us rethink lineups in a couple week.s

It's Sea Otter week so we've gotta love them little critters this week. Sea lions are a different story, not harbor seals, those steller's are just rats with flippers...they're lucky I can't shoot them!!

The government is greedy. I'd definitely support the introduction of a regulation to remove the meat which on an animal this large, would deter so many hunts.

This is kind of funny timing. A guy who fished beside me this morning was just complaining how a grizzly just ate the seat off his ATV the other day out in the bush. After that a local friend here just pulled up to my camp spot and has a grizzly draw and is going out today looking.

Yup, and I think we are on the same page as far as regulations go.

i thought we'd hear from booner and lefty on this one.

i know it's hypocritical to favour some animals over others, especially as a meat eater.
Just don't like seeing trophy hunts.
The article made it sound like the carcass was left to rot and not used. I don't know if this was accurate or not.

The meat is left behind with Grizzlies most often. The entire hide head and paws are a enforced requirement. The meat is not popular with the natives even but I do know a few FN who like it and I have tasted it myself. You can get sick and die from it far more than black bear...

It's not illegal to leave the remains there, according to current laws. Apparently Stoner removed the head, paws and hide...which is all that's required.

Unlike the hunting of other game, there is no legal requirement under the Wildlife Act for hunters to remove edible portions of grizzly meat from the kill site.

The only things that eat grizzly meat are grizzlies.

Oh it'll happen...he won't score more than 8 to 12 times his first few years so he'll be a bust. People have no patience.

- LeftCoaster

Neither did Vey and I doubt Baertschi will either. People have to be realistic about what they expect rookies to do. Burrows first full year he had 3 goals 6 assists. Kesler 10 goals 13 assists .

Ya it seems as though everyone, general statement, wants a Cindy Crosby 100 point rookie...it's just not realistic.

Bo Horvat had a good rookie season with only 12 goals and 25 points, or something like that, Vey along the same lines...this is realistic.

I think Virtanen would end up with 9 goals 5 assists 156 hits and 87 PIMs

Not that I hate Shinkaruk, but I wish Gillis would have taken a defenseman in 2013 after he took Horvat at #9. That'd be another kid just about to earn a job.

Gillis had no idea how to "build".

As long as he's hitting and makes the occasional contribution on the scoresheet I'd call that a successful rookie season. It's going to take him a few years before his scoring touch comes at the NHL level. I think your projection is very fair and realistic and likely for JV.

Last year during the Comets run I believe Benning and Green stressed to him that he can't be a liability, offense will come but play on the right side of the puck and he'll be fine.

I think he will add excitement to the Canucks. There will be mistakes, but they will be fun to watch

Agreed.

Burrows mentors Sutter who mentors the rookies. Ideally we could have signed Elias to mentor Burrows though.

- Nucker101

And Larionov to mentor Elias...
