Easily. They never once said, 'We will not trade away any of our young players or prospects in our system.' They said they have a plan to build a winning team the right way. - Phenom
To me that is not being patient with the development, hence the contradiction. |

One will always need to associate Dermott and Bracco when discussing that 24th pick.
I'll take those two over whoever actually went at 24 - TheThrill
Konecny? |

I think two, they have 45 contracts, that will give them three to play with throughout the year. - LeafMan
Yeah hopefully not more than that. Otherwise it goes against everything they've said. They need to open up slots for their rookies. |

I never had high hopes for Finn.
Just like Dermott..My expectations are very low.. late 1sts and on are just chances at something good.
At the moment i trust Hunter when it comes to drafting, Dubas developing, shanny with the Plan .. I dont have enough info to shout it all down.
that could change..but I have no reason to complain yet - senstroll
Admittedly, I pay more attention to junior and prospects now than I did then, but I have to say I'm more hopeful about Dermott now than I ever was with Finn. He never impressed me at all anytime I saw him play. Losing him causes me very little grief. |

He was talked about as a "steal" in the draft so it is alarming the Leafs are giving up on him - my bet is that the Leafs think he'll have a hard time adjusting post-injury. Knee injuries are tough. |
|
|
|
were any of those prospects in the top 10 Leafs prospects?
Doubtful
CV and Finn probably have an outside chance at being NHL players...but not very impactful ones imo. - senstroll
to me it's not about whether or not the players might have had an impact. To me, it's about the fact they gave up assets for the possibility of getting better assets..maybe..likely not.
I am fine with signing PTO guys and trying to flip them, no cost, no risk. but to give up assets in order to try this is introducing risk, and imo they will end with less when it is all said and done. |

Well, to me, it seems they had Dermott in mind and felt they could get the guy they wanted. Each organization has their own player rankings and value they place on a player & then there is the perceived value by other organizations. If you think you can get your guy later, then trade down & get more assets! - twiztedmike
And then, they move a bunch out with a trade. Barring any more trade, the Leafs do have a whack of picks for next year's draft to use to move up in the the draft. |

I see the contradiction as a general statement. But getting into specifics, like the prospects as individuals, they seem to know what they had/have and are seemingly building their prospect group in their mold. Obviously, these guys, save for maybe Beck who they acquired and signed, did not fit their vision. It doesn't mean they are deviating from the plan. They do value quantity as well as quality in terms of getting Hunter more picks to work with, but they want the quality they see as future pieces. |
|
|
|
I respect your opinion and The thrill's, I think what has really pissed me off is that what they did yesterday was a complete contradiction to what they have been preaching since the end of last year, how can you trust this group now? - LeafMan
How else were they going to clear contracts from their books?
Yes, bad asset management on the part of the management team. |

I don't see the season being as bad as people and the media are making it out to be....I feel like this is going to be the type of team that makes it to the playoffs like the team did when Pat Quinn took over...low expectations, a bunch of misfits out with something to prove, an actual good coach...I think people are going to be surprised at the results. If Phaneuf plays better, Lupul stays healthy, Reilly has an awesome year, and Kadri reaches his potential...the team will make the playoffs. |

Grabner = 30 goal scorer
JVR = 30 goal scorer
Seto = 30 goal scorer
Boyes = 30 goal scorer
Bozak = 20+ goal scorer
PAP = 20+ goal scorer
Lupul = 20+ goal scorer
Kadri = 20+ goal scorer
Just saying... - Not_Stee

That is likely true. It also seems a lot of other d-men were just leap-frogging him at will on the depth chart. Rielly, Percy, Granberg, even Holzer who is now gone as well. |

I agree and I said so as much when I brought up the contract number and the PTO's brought in, I had a feeling that prospects were going to be shipped out. |

I bet it will, just for the simple fact Babcock will not allow half the poop that went on last year. There will be no passengers on this squad. |

Weird, I was thinking the same thing
Sure Babcock is a good coach but he doesn't have the ability to give players talent which this team is pretty devoid of. |

Contracts being what they are, I don't think Babcock can do much if guys like Phaneuf and Lupul mail it in. If he even thinks about sitting those guys, there goes their trade value. Ultimately, players with those no move clauses still have the power. |

Except everyone is already going to have a cell phone.
We renovated our house 3 years ago - gutted it down to the studs.
I ran networking cable throughout the house.
Ran speaker wire in the living room.
Guy asked where I wanted the phone cables. I said I didn't want any, thank you. |
