That remains to be seen... The more I think about it, the more this looks like Lamoriello trying to put an NHL roster together, thinking that "it might work". Just like he did in NJ the past few years.

Agreed..The leafs are "Burkeing" for a playoff spot..

No everybody has to stop thinking they will get a boat load of picks for discarded players nobody wants because of the arrogance of Hunter and Dubas.
- LeafMan

Lou is the GM, these moves are on him.

And how could any of us know about their arrogance?

Missed my second paragraph Lou, because you have a clear agenda. Unfortunately, I disagree with your take and think you are wrong.

If they get picks for the PTO's that's just a bonus.

This was about other players earning roster spots. Everybody seems so upset because TML draft choices got pushed out by walk-ons who busted their ass to impress.

But you know who actually knows how to build a winning hockey team better than any of us? The management group with multiple Stanley Cups under their belt. And don't yammer on about Burke and Carlyle who each had 1 cup, and it was the same cup, for the same team. That argument holds zero weight with me

Seriously?

How do you trade a big, young, winger from Niagara region, who has chemistry with Holland, for a guy who was a 4th liner for the Canucks and overpaid on NYI (and has 1 year left on his deal)

Even if they needed to open up contracts...get some frickin' picks back or something

- mr.sir

What if he was from Flin Flon, Manitoba? Would that have made a difference?

Lou checked with them, to think he would give away 5 prospects he has never seen is naive. They gave away picks from the other management but also from scouts still with the team, Morrison and Bergman picks.

Sure they are. Because they gave up two 1sts and a 2nd for a prolific trigger man while signing two slow, defensive dmen to 4+ mil contracts right?

Give me a (frank)ing break. They made 1 trade that wasn't even that bad and you guys are acting like its the Kessel deal v2.0

I gorgot that amazing run in 2001 when Shanny, Dubby and Hunty ran the best darn organization in the league. What was even more impressive was Young Doob.

Then they trade him at the deadline for a 1st and a top prospect! THE PERFECT CRIME

If they judged those prospects weren't in their future plans, might as well get something in return for them.

and it says something that they think a free roster spot is more valuable than the actual prospects at this point.

I am willing to let it play out to see how they come out in the end with Grabner and the spots they fill them with in the end

I like having Boyes, Fraser and Grabner on the team.

Glencross and Seto,..well....I'm neutral about it

I'm also glad to give Sparkes another chance on the farm

The point is, this is the major reason they suck balls constantly.
- AdamFrench

They suck balls at drafting. Or at least they did in that era. The number of those picks that are no longer with the organization is neither here nor there. They haven't gone on to be successful anywhere else either. Just bad drafting.

I'll admit, the young Doob made me chuckle.

The bottom line in all this is that the deal was made. So we can accept it, take the positives from it and move on with our lives, or we can spend the next 2 weeks till the season starts female doging and complaining because we think we know how to run a hockey team better than guys who have been doing it since before we were born.

I already chose the former, so I don't really have more to say on the matter. Onwards and upwards, kids.

What I find very amusing, people here say they evaluated them, Finn and Verhaeghe did not play very many pro games, to gauge they are garbage like that is foolish. They were not given a chance at the pro level. This was a knee jerk reaction to getting their pants caught down because of poor asset management. Ask Dozzer, I warned about this several weeks ago.

I'm not sure why you think Dubas would be naive in this situation. If anything he was the guy who stresses development through every league - even the ECHL - to promote a greater sense of autonomy.

Is there a contract limit in the AHL like what the NHL has (50) per team?

Don't think for a second that Shanny and Hunter had nothing to do with this. They have their prospect depth chart firmly on Lou's desk. They're all on the same page. That's one thing I'm sure of with this regime.

Pro contracts count in the AHL and NHL. AHL contracts don't count towards the 50. There is no roster limit in the AHL.

Also, you can only dress 6 vet players a game (A Veteran is any player that has played in 321 or more professional games in the AHL, NHL or any of the elite leagues in Europe )

All of our amazing dynamite picks

All of those picks from 2014 which Shannabro had a peek at

Kind of funny, and kind of true.

They seem fine with Goat and Johnson (2013) as well as most of the 2012 class (Mo, Brown, Rupert, Loov)

But it does seem like they just want out from under the 4-5 years of drafting truculence

I respectfully disagree with the knee - jerk reaction assumption. They knew what they had and were using the rookie tourney as a final evaluation before making the decision to move out certain people. Beck was likely the one the Isles insisted on for the deal to happen cuz I don't see how they'd pick him up, sign him, then deal him a couple months later.
