"He brings exceptional speed," general manager Lou Lamoriello said. "There's no question that he's one of the top penalty killers in the League. He pushes other people and he pushes the defense back."
Does that help? And is Lou used to lying to NJ fans who don't know much about hockey? Cus I don't even think The President believes that BS. - 1979AD
My issue with this trade is that it goes against the philosphy we were sold and had been both expecting and hoping for. We got a 27 soon to be pending ufa for 5 young players/prospects. Who cares about this teams speed and pk. It was supposed to be a year of pains and transition, while we focused on developing youth. Now we have an assload of maybes with no future on this team, and a year from now were stilll not going to know anything about our youth and the future of this team. |

Patrick Kane made a statement:
"This has been an incredibly difficult time for many people. I cannot apologize enough for the distraction caused to my family, teammates, this incredible organization, and of course our fans. While I have too much respect for legal process to comment on a legal matter, I am confident that once all the facts come to light, I will be absolved of having done nothing wrong."

This trade has a distinct odour about it. None of the guys traded were in the ESPN list of Leaf top prospects, but I still don't like the concept at all.
This doesn't make any sense unless there is a part two still to come - Rang
How doesn't it?
Trim the fat by moving a bunch of contracts that were far down the leafs depth chart. Make room for some of the guys who were more impressive at prospect camp and sign a few PTOs that can be flipped to recoup picks. |

I've had to digest and think the trade over.
Nothings changed. Still a brutal deal. - systemtool
Yea if Kessel had scored 40 for the Leafs this year, they would get game changers in return |

I don't think this derails that plan. I like to think they wanted to unload some contracts (they can only hold 50 at a time) for flexibility and didn't think any of those prospects were going to turn out, and there's the outside hope that Grabner can rekindle the magic and become a commodity tradeable for real prospect(s)/picks.
If anything, I'm pumped with the short term vet contracts and PTOs. Last year showed how valuable the strategy of signing vets with something to prove to short deals and trading them to contenders at the deadline can be, and I expect this deadline to be even better as long as some of those guys show they can help teams. |

I have had some time to think about this trade..and still meh
It will depend on whats done with the contract spaces created. and we wont know the full outcome until the end of the season
Could work out for the leafs
David Johnson @hockeyanalysis
5v5 G/60 over last 3 seasons. Kessel: 1.02 Grabner: 0.99. Kessel played with Bozak, Grabner played with Frans Nielsen/Brock Nelson. |

I guess my concern is they are prospects with potential. We know what Grabner is, we are not sure what Finn and Verhaege are going to be, or Gibson for that matter.
Right now those guys are farther down the depth chart, but the light bulb could go off and they become good players for a flaky guy with 1 year left on his deal |

i think so, if he stays healthy he can...
1. Help the leafs win games
2. Most importantly if he plays well with him having 1 year left on his deal possibly flip him at the deadline |
