either way I am firmly in the camp that does not believe the Leafs will manage to turn what they did today in to a better pool of prospects. Even PTO guys that showed well in the rookie tournament are very long shots at best of ever having an impact on the big club. but I like the idea of getting those guys and knowing what you have and trying to develop and groom that potential. - vermie22
From the prospect tourney I liked joly and skladnichenko more than verhaeghe and brouillard more than Finn. Beck was a fringe nhler that would probably take ice time away from guys like Kapanen Hyman Bailey and soshnikov in the A and one of Gibson Bibeau or sparks had to be moved. At worst it's a sideways move. Not a big deal. |

Since 2008: Eberle (22nd), Klefbom (17th), Petry (2nd round, now top 4 in Mtl)...
The oil are bad at drafting, but not "Leafs bad" - BigDre
In the Leafs' scouting staff's defence, you've had a hulluva lot more high picks.
It's hard to draft quality buys when your 1st pick is in the 3rd round, year after year. |

Wait, I thought this was about rookie invites that impressed management more than guys we had drafted 2-3 years ago?
PTOs turning into picks is just basing upon what happened at last year's TDD. It may or may not happen, but I think it probably will. May as well get assets for the expiring contracts, yeah? - TheThrill
I am fine with getting rid of assets if they are guaranteed to get the same or more assets back. as soon as their is chance they could end up with nothing, I don't like it. |

What do you think folks will say if Grabner puts up 20 this year?

I hope Leafman doesn't trade me for 5 meddling prospects either. After all I am a veteran of nearly 8 years. Let me finish my career in this thread. Like Doug Gilmour, my stint in Montreal was disastrous. |

If you give up 5 bad ones for a good one,how many does Leafs have to give up to get a winning team in their anniversary year? |

With all your alts, aren't you 5 middling prospects?
And what the hell are 5 meddling prospects?
Did we draft Fred, Velma, Daphne, Shaggy and Scooby? |

How? They replaced 3 of those 5 guys with rookies that impressed them, and got an NHLer also. Just because it was our drafted guys going out doesn't mean they are more valuable than the guys we will be signing.
On another note, every (frank)ing person complaining about this deal remember it the next time you try to spout some "whoever got the best player in the trade wins the trade" bullpoop |

Well if they deal with the Flyers, they can get top 6 forwards for the low price of an overrated bust pylon. |

Looking at last year the Leafs might be considered lucky if he puts up 20 games played. |

I agree joly, brouillard and skladnichenko had good showings in the tournament. If those are they guys they sign, I will be ok with the move.
beck and grabner are a wash, as they are the NHLers that may or may not be flipped for draft picks/prospects. |

Fair point, and he may very well have a catastrophic year.
My point is that nobody knows, but people love to poop all over every decision made by management no matter what it is |
