- the_eye

Is that a official number and have you really included all the poop?

Could also be for other waiver pickups in the next few weeks...
- lumlums

2 for 1 involving JVR, 2 or 3 for ones involving a bad contract.
Could be anything.

It was mentioned early on in the thread but it kind of devolved into that over time.
- HealthyScratch6

either way I am firmly in the camp that does not believe the Leafs will manage to turn what they did today in to a better pool of prospects. Even PTO guys that showed well in the rookie tournament are very long shots at best of ever having an impact on the big club. but I like the idea of getting those guys and knowing what you have and trying to develop and groom that potential.

Boyes and Glencross are still NHLers.
They needed at least 1 more contract space.

Ah well, it boils down to a "time will tell" scenario, as it always does.

That's all I heard when he was drafted. Go Finn!

That's true and if just one of those we gave up on makes it, then it starts a with a whole new can of worms.
- LeafMan

I think it depends what "makes it" implies.

If Nilsson down the road grows into a bottom pairing Dman or Verhaege gets some 3rd line C duties, I'm not going to cry about it.

Depth players are a dime a dozen. Every year, more and more come out of the woodwork.

Also, the same logic could be flipped on its head: If Joly, Skladnichenko, Brouillard, etc "make it", then according to that line of thinking, it should be considered a great trade

No PTO's in the rookie tournament, there were invitees, a couple the Leafs might like to keep.
But if they are still juniors they can send them back to their junior team and the contract won't count anyway.

How do you know this?

More importantly, how do you know that they will be any longer shot than the guys we shipped out?

You speak in absolutes. I'd sure like your crystal ball

I know he's still young, but IMHO Landsbergfan is that classic tweener - looks good on smaller boards, but will never be able to cut it here at Hockeybuzz.

I wouldn't be surprised if Philly cut him loose. They are pretty solid up the middle with MJL.

I just really hope that Leafman doesn't trade for Landsbergfan. Leafman always overvalues the young kids. He needs to realize that at a certain point, you need to give up on prospects who haven't taken the next step.

I will toss one off in the morning. I will be drunk tonight. I will continue to let my parents down.

Indeed, you can speak with certainty about yourself and your own life.

A move like this makes sense in the bigger picture. They fired almost all of their scouts, it's not hard to believe they want to ship out the prospects the former scouts had acquired.

just the like the absolutes that we will get draft picks for the 1 year guys and those draft picks will be better than the prospects we gave up that everyone else is spouting.

it comes down to this.

5 assets traded for 1 asset.

possible return is this:

5+ assets, 5 assets, 5- assets, 0 assets

without assigning any weights to those assets (because they are prospects and we reallly don't know..really we don't)

that is a 50% chance the leafs end with with less when all is said and done...not a risk I would ever be willing to take...and if this is how people manage their assets, no wonder everyone is in dept.

I'm guessing you're not the world's best poker player.

Wait, I thought this was about rookie invites that impressed management more than guys we had drafted 2-3 years ago?

PTOs turning into picks is just basing upon what happened at last year's TDD. It may or may not happen, but I think it probably will. May as well get assets for the expiring contracts, yeah?

It's all just a crap shoot no matter what they do.
Till they get the high end talent. it'll be all circles.

Outside of the top-10 picks and 1st overalls, this is similar to Edmonton's draft record.
- Aetherial

Since 2008: Eberle (22nd), Klefbom (17th), Petry (2nd round, now top 4 in Mtl)...

The oil are bad at drafting, but not "Leafs bad"
