Then Leafman isn't any better than the Leafs management the last 45 years.

No matter what I think of you, Leafman, I will always stick up for you:

You are better than Associate GM Mike Smith.

ok this is an angle I can get behind, they would be replacing prospects with prospects that did show better potential (albeit in a very short time frame). I can't get behind the idea of crossing the fingers for veteran PTO panning out into something down the road.
- vermie22

thats the same angle everyone was saying, the need the contract space

That is what I'm saying, I think it was out of necessity other than evaluation, they got caught with their pants down on the contracts.

I could be wrong, but I believe that most felt the contract spaces were for the likes of Boyes, Seteguci, Glencross etc.

False.

Lots saying it's for the PTO's, not other prospects.

Quick thoughts on the trade.
At first I couldn't believe we have up that many prospects.
However, I have to consider what the goal of all of this was.
Roster space.
Brouillard had a fantastic camp and already looked better than Finn or Nilsson
Joly, Schladenkov or however you spell it looked good. Better than verhaeghe.

- ILoveLamp

Yes.

People have forgotten that there were a good deal of minor league signings and rookie tournament walk-ons that played over their head

I'm not going to lie, I was taken aback at first too, mainly because of Verhaege, but I see the logic behind the move

Plus none of us have any idea what is out there. We may need to take a cap dump contract in order to get a good player or what have you. Nobody really knows, but now Leafs have the flexibility to pull something off if need be

Does that not equate to needing the contract spaces?

Like trading 2 first round picks?

Burke tried to win now and restock. He failed at both.

Rielly is the only blue chip prospect he had. And it was a result of him trying to win.

Give this group a few more weeks - we'll see what else they do

New Rocky movie coming out.

Rocky trains Apollo Creed's son.

Nope, I'm not making it up.

I agree, and I think this applies to both perspectives

It was mentioned early on in the thread but it kind of devolved into that over time.

Every PTO could very well be awful so there is a chance it's not needed.

That's true and if just one of those we gave up on makes it, then it starts a with a whole new can of worms.

Boyes and Glencross are still NHLers.
They needed at least 1 more contract space.

I'm also wondering if a little bit of this is getting the smell of Burke and Nonis out of the development system.

I'd love to hear how Biggs was included in the Kessel deal. Am I crazy to think that the Leafs insisted on it, instead of the Penguins asking for him?
