It also opens up a waiver pickup as well.
- zazzle

That's true but they have to dip into Horton's LTI cap space.

I'm assuming you're thinking of a player with a bigger cap hit.

yes a gamble I would never take. I would work with what I have, and make sure I am doing my best to back-fill any deadwood i need to cut away. The chance what I have will pan out is > than the chance I strike it rich on something I likely will never get.

I guess this why people play the lottery every week, where I would rather save the money I have and buy an ipad or something at the end of the year instead.

they had to cut contracts, they got a one year deal back.
Did anybody really think the Goat was going to the Solar Bears?

The leafs do have a full advanced stats department that know a lot more about these guys than most of us do. It worked out well with Winnik and santorelli last year. I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt for now.

they need to sign a replacement goalie for the ECHL. I am guessing ECHL only contracts don't apply to the 50? anyone know?

I don't agree in the slightest - but I understand your argument.

Same thing Burke did
- Garnie

Like trading 2 first round picks?

Burke tried to win now and restock. He failed at both.

Rielly is the only blue chip prospect he had. And it was a result of him trying to win.

I still think he might. Nylander froese Carrick Rupert are probably their 4 centers in the A.

Well let's see, they gave up five prospects for PTO players that nobody wanted, call it a hunch.
- LeafMan

We'll have a personal bet that one of these three (or four) PTO signings will be reciprocated with a pick by march.

You are failing miserably.

I hope because if they are all busts at camp, then they miss out.

Quick thoughts on the trade.
At first I couldn't believe we have up that many prospects.
However, I have to consider what the goal of all of this was.
Roster space.
Brouillard had a fantastic camp and already looked better than Finn or Nilsson
Joly, Schladenkov or however you spell it looked good. Better than verhaeghe.

He was awesome on the TSN boards. He maybe just needs time to adjust to the pace and the size of the posters here.
- Aetherial

I know he's still young, but IMHO Landsbergfan is that classic tweener - looks good on smaller boards, but will never be able to cut it here at Hockeybuzz.

I wouldn't be surprised if Philly cut him loose. They are pretty solid up the middle with MJL.

I just really hope that Leafman doesn't trade for Landsbergfan. Leafman always overvalues the young kids. He needs to realize that at a certain point, you need to give up on prospects who haven't taken the next step.

Then Leafman isn't any better than the Leafs management the last 45 years.

Correct. Same with Marlies only contracts.

The downside is the guy is basically still a UFA - so if he starts the season with 29 shutouts in a row, anybody can sign him.

ok this is an angle I can get behind, they would be replacing prospects with prospects that did show better potential (albeit in a very short time frame). I can't get behind the idea of crossing the fingers for veteran PTO panning out into something down the road.
