I don't mind this. All the prospects were weak, outside Finn -- who they've been looking at for a while now. Clearly they didn't feel like he was rising along a steep enough curve.
This clears contracts so they can sign some of these PTO players -- EACH of which will be traded at the deadline for picks. As will Grabner. Clearly they're just clearing the shelves for restocking.
No reason to get upset. None of these guys were going to be anything but supporting players. |

That is going backwards.
So much for the brain trust theory.
Stupidity that unites them all - LeafMan
this makes so much sense i cant believe you guys arent seeing it.
LL and BS have been evaluating
they have flagged some burke nonis picks they dont particularly like or see a place for in their vision for the leafs.
this opens up contract slots
they sign a few guys on PTOs
move them at the deadline for picks and prospects more in line with what then envision for the leafs
by this time next summer those prospects will be replaced with players more in line with the new brain trust's of the leafs vision.
seriously LM.. look at this one with eyes on a year down the road |

It's what I warned about for weeks now, the Leafs screwed themselves into a corner contract wise. This is the result of it. |

Boyes? Seems like this is a sign that guys like Nylander, Marner, Kapanen are having less and less of a shot of making the team.
Adding another NHL contract in Grabner and flexibility to sign some PTOs |

It also ties us to another bad contract. Yeah, I know it expires, but this is poop. |

Wow, kind of a shocker, but I guess they had to open up some contract space. I've always liked Grabner but he's had health issues. I was intrigued by the potential of Beck and Verhaeghe but other than that, not much lost. Finn will be an AHLer for life. Grabner only takes Beck ' s place in the potential to take a roster spot. |

100% correct.
There's a few promising prospects in there, a couple drafted in the 2nd round we've been lacking for years.
The contract space means nothing. To sign PTO's who will be traded at the deadline for 3-5 round picks, best case scenario.. 2nd rounders where we just traded prospects that were picked.
Bypassing developing our own players, to make room to sign dinosaurs who will be traded for picks to draft lower ceiling players than we just traded.
Brilliant. That's about as backwards as it gets. |

so? $ is not a problem for MLSE
he makes 5 million cash, 3 million cap hit.. and the contract is up at the end of this season
if he has a good season.. boom.. he gets moved for picks too |
