why does no one see the fact that the leafs are not guaranteed any future draft picks after this is all said and done?
it's like a foregone conclusion all these mid level and last chance guys are going to have career years and yield great returns. I think this is highly unlikely. - vermie22
the Leafs don't care, they want contact and cap space |
|
|
|
can you guarantee grabner or any of the possible PTO guys will be equate to draft picks that are better than the ones they gave up? my bet is on the very real possibility they end with less prospects and they will have less potential. - vermie22
Out of the guys they gave up Nilsson has bottom pairing potential neck and verhaeghe might some day be mediocre bottom 6 guys Gibson is an ahler and Finn is going to be 22 playing in the ECHL all those guys are easily replaceable. I'd rather have the picks for a shot at a Connor Brown even if they're late found picks |

That is why I said give him away plus the others to sign more PTO's. The more chances for late round picks to replace the prospects the better it seems with Hunter. - LeafMan
Another sarcastic reply like that, and I'll give you a week off to think about your behavior here.
Wait, you'd probably like that.
Damn. |

They actually have less cap space with this deal. This was trying to fix a huge mistake by the so called brain trust signing a whole bunch of players without thinking it through. |

The prospects we gave up had no potential. Id rather have one good prospects than five poopty ones - cesareborgia
But there is also a strong chance that those 5 prospects become zero prospects. |

Since Garth Snow is involved could be a good sign Leafs won this deal |

It's true. This is a bit of a gamble. They are banking that some of these single year contracts will pan out in there favor as a short term investment. If they even get two good picks out of a potential subsequent trade - job well done. |

Grabner has 1 year left at $3 milly.
Who cares about his cap hit?
No way the Leafs get near the cap ceiling this year. |

they do have less, but next year it will be aplenty.
and they didn't sign any PTO's just yet.
I think they could get a couple of decent players for JVR, so there's an extra contract there |

I know it's fun for 29 fan bases to make fun of any Islanders GM, but the scary truth is Snow has done a damn good job lately. |

Usually things backfire for the Leafs, I hope it is not arrogant thinking they know more than other teams because frankly, they don't. |

Well let's see, they gave up five prospects for PTO players that nobody wanted, call it a hunch. |

yes a gamble I would never take. I would work with what I have, and make sure I am doing my best to back-fill any deadwood i need to cut away. The chance what I have will pan out is > than the chance I strike it rich on something I likely will never get.
I guess this why people play the lottery every week, where I would rather save the money I have and buy an ipad or something at the end of the year instead. |

Right and it looks like they want to take their chances with their own picks.
