allows the leafs to sign a couple PTOs.. they play well.. they get flipped for picks (notice the leafs didnt trade any of those), flip the one year guys who played their asses off all season to re-prove themselves for more picks, which allows dubais and hunter to restock using their criteria
these guys are burke and nonis picks.. you cant possibly think that the new management group likes every one of them?
and there is nobody they moved who is a shoe in for the NHL.. and they were all down the depth chart for leafs prospects anyways.
solid move. - Dozzer
Let's hope - our luck is 2 of them start on the Isles 1st line in the next couple years

For me, the best thing about these vets, more so than a poop ton of middle round picks is that we won't need any of the prospects that matter to be anywhere near the Leafs this year |

you work with what you have, groom and try to improve it if needed....if they don't pan out, you are working every year to fill in. you are more likely to find gold with what you have vs. hoping you might get a chance to find gold with something you don't have and may never get.

Good wheels but the spat of injuries and groin surgeries have zapped some of that speed but he is a good PK guy who can probably get you 15 goals if he stays healthy and that's a big if - Vukota
He is really sharp on his skates almost Kessel like, but he can go Semin and be like a ghost in tough checking games |

when they trade JVR for those 2 juicy prospects the extra contract space will help a lot |

Pretty much. If he had bad hands he would be good for 25 plus but his hands are putrid |

Hey we still have some more prospects to give up to allow more PTO's to make it, Brown, Johnson, Leivo, Hyman and Leipsic, then the Leafs might have a chance to flip those PTO's for late rounders!

or the pick they don't get for grabner because he has a bad season and/or is injurred and can't be traded. |

I wonder if the Islander told Brock if he doesn't this contract, they will trade to the Leafs. So he signed, the Leafs got Grabner instead. |

There is literally nothing to get upset about.
Gibson will be a career AHL'er and Finn may crack the NHL and play a meager number of games.
Nilsson may be the best prospect in this bunch - but his ceiling is practically a good bottom pairing defenseman. Verhaegh is the definition of a tweener, can't find the scoring touch in pro but dominates the rookie leagues.
Grabner gives us a legit top nine guy who will (with all likelihood) be traded at the deadline for a new draft pick - one which follows the new direction of the team.
These guys were Burke and Nonis draft picks guys. RELAX. WE WILL BE BAD ANYWAYS. |

People are looking at it as 5 for 1 but the real value is the contract spots it opens up that we may be able to flip for additional picks. You trade guys who haven't panned out for another kick at the can. If grabner and one of the PTOs have a bounce back year you might be able to pull and franson/santorelli and get a late first or a couple 2nds. |

The team can lose a couple of guys. There is no way that they trade valuable prospects for a spare part. |

I'm not sure
We traded a higher pick for more picks and then trade 5 prospects for Grabner?
Grabner going to play or bring us back better than those 5?
I can't see it - Garnie
The 5 contract spaces they opened could bring back 5
Its obvious shanny and the crew want their own prospects to draft and develop.
This is a much longer term move than most want to think about |

can you guarantee grabner or any of the possible PTO guys will be equate to draft picks that are better than the ones they gave up? my bet is on the very real possibility they end with less prospects and they will have less potential. |
