I feel like Garth Snow just acquired more, pound for pound...over what we did for the Kessel trade. In terms of actual skill. What kind of trade is this? I think a 3rd rounder would have been enough for some one like Grabner. - ThePresident

the weights can't be quantified as the assets are prospects, and we don't know what they will be...esepcially the one they might get down the road. they are completely unknown. - vermie22
You could probably apply some form of statistical analysis in order to determine the probability that they earn an NHL roster spot one day, and the number of points they'd score.
Just collect all former prospect data from hockeydb and plug into stata |

I was pontificating about just this last night with a friend (beer was involved).
Our basic assessment of this year's roster (forgive me if I've forgotten anyone):
Elite players: Phaneuf (yeah, feel free to poop your pants disagreeing with me)
Good players: Lupul, JVR
Guys who we hope start reaching their full potential: Rielly, Kadri, Panik. Maybe Bernier (I don't agree with this)
Wild card: Gardiner
That's 7 or 8 guys who I actually care about. The rest I sincerely do not give two poops about - you could trade them tomorrow and plug the holes with other stiffs and it wouldn't make a difference to either the Leafs' record or my level of Caresi.
It's the apathy that unites us all. - Atomic Wedgie
Whether or not Phaneuf can improve is the most interesting question this year. After that maybe seeing if Kadri can develop (I don't think so) or Rielly can improve as we think he can.
Other than that, I am with you, the entire rest of the roster is meaningless to me.

I guess we greatly differ on what is elite. - LeafMan
I think JVR is closer to being elite than phaneuf.. But the leafs traded their only elite player in July.
We have elite talent (Reilly, nylander, marner) but no elite players. |

What Subban did yesterday was such a good story that not even the Leafs can depress me today.

you could do that to the guys they traded away sure...but what weights to you assign the guys they might draft/obtain in trades in the future...maybe you can come up with some type of average for all draft picks of becoming effective NHLers, but that average is likely pretty bad. |

As Ive said since they sign Babcock...this team is not tanking. They will develop their young players and will put a competitive team on the ice.
I really liked Finn...not a huge fan of trade....but it opens up roster spots and Grabner can turn it around....he could be decent player.
But really who cares.....Go Jays Go! - Fakepartofme
When you say you really liked Finn, which part of his game impressed you the most? I didn't catch any Solar Bears games. |

Between Subban and Patrick Kane, we all got a real good reminder that who these guys are on the ice is not who they are as human beings.
