It's all pretty much a blur at this point. The names don't matter anymore. Only the suck remains.

I was pontificating about just this last night with a friend (beer was involved).

Our basic assessment of this year's roster (forgive me if I've forgotten anyone):

Elite players: Phaneuf (yeah, feel free to poop your pants disagreeing with me)

Good players: Lupul, JVR

Guys who we hope start reaching their full potential: Rielly, Kadri, Panik. Maybe Bernier (I don't agree with this)

Wild card: Gardiner

That's 7 or 8 guys who I actually care about. The rest I sincerely do not give two poops about - you could trade them tomorrow and plug the holes with other stiffs and it wouldn't make a difference to either the Leafs' record or my level of Caresi.

It's the apathy that unites us all.

Am I allowed to say I like this deal for the Isles or will Dozzier ban me?

Huh?
- Atomic Wedgie

the leafs took 5 assets and traded for 1, hoping to flip that 1 asset for more assets down the road....what are the possible returns when they attempt to make that move?

a) > 5 assets
b) = 5 assets
c) < 5 assets
d) 0 assets

the above equate to a 75% chance the leafs end up with the same or less assets.
they are betting on the 25% chance they end up with more assets. this is poor asset management.

This kind of analysis without applying weights is meaningless.

Who would you rather have, all of the orlando solar bears or Jonathan Toews?

plain arrogant if this is the way the Leafs are going to run things now
let see what people say when 2 years from now Bracco and timashov are still labeled too small etc to be really effective NHLers down the road and are traded for 6th rounders.

- vermie22

The guys they traded were so far down on the depth chart that they were never going to play in the NHL so they free up roster spots for guys who could play this year to give their young guys a chance to develop and then trade them for picks so they can have a shot at getting more solid prospects for the future. Everyone is upset about Finn but he was their 8th best pro D not in the NHL and looked terrible at the prospect tourney.

the weights can't be quantified as the assets are prospects, and we don't know what they will be...esepcially the one they might get down the road. they are completely unknown.
