the leafs had 49 starting the day, max is 50, now they only have 45

if those PTO guys justifiably make the team now they have the space to sign them

There's a couple 2nd rounders in there, and a couple more young guys with a lot of upside. For a far far crappier far more injury prone version of kessel.

And the justification is to open up room for a bunch of guys theyll trade at the deadline for some middling draft picks which will be used to draft lower ceiling talent?

That's the exact opposite way to stock the system, and really a terrible move.

This. It seems they were determined to rid themselves of as many of the prospects from the the Burke and Nonis years. hell it's possible Kadri will gone by the end of the year too.

it screams to me that they think they can find more talent in the later rounds than nonis and burke could in the 2nd. which is possible, but pretty arrogant.
