At this point, he has not even been charged with anything, so you analogy doesn't quite work.
If charges are laid, the Blackhawks have some serious thinking to do.
Until that time, I don't think (I'm not a lawyer) they can prevent him from showing up for work, without opening themselves up to a lawsuit. - Atomic Wedgie
My analogy wasn't very good.
But if I'm the Blackhawks I'd tell him to wait until the smoke clears before showing up.
That said, the Hawks may be aware of something we don't know. Or maybe, as you suggest, they'd be the ones who end up being sued if they ask him to stay away. |

I heard a good point - may have been on Leafslunch today or yesterday - the problem with this is that you'll have more than sports reporters showing up to camp to cover this story.
Sport reporters will try to remain chummy with the team - be careful what they say, what they ask.
A crime reporter won't give two poops. They'll paint Kane in a bad light if that's their prerogative. - Atomic Wedgie
it wouldnt be hard to administer passes on chicago's part

You might be surprised at just how NOT worried I am about jumping to conclusions when judging Patrick Kane.
Let's just say his pattern of misogyny when drinking is fairly well documented. |

I'm not looking at this from a legal point of view. More from a PR/Marketing point of view. And to me, Kane isn't a positive thing, at this moment, for the team.
What's the worse that could happen if they ask him to stay home for a while? That in the end, he wasn't guilty and the Hawks took a cautious approach and tell everyone that rape/sexual abuse/violence is something serious.
Or they let him come to camp, he ends up being guilty, and the team is painted as an organization that didn't care if one of their player was an alleged rapist and he's no longer around only because he was convicted in a court of law. |

From a media standpoint, that is not an advisable strategy.
You just create a new story that the organization is refusing entry to media "who have legitimate questions."
As they say in the business, "you need to get out in front of this story." |

I get what you are saying, but I think from a PR point of view, you can hide behind that fact that he hasn't been charged with anything. Say that in the good old US of A, every man is presumed innocent, he has a right to earn a living, blah blah blah, no charges have been laid, Kane is fully cooperating with authorities, and then hint that the organization's hands are tied.
And I'll also point out: if they have a meeting around the board room table, and the PR/Marketing team is saying one thing and the legal team is saying another thing, it doesn't matter what the PR/Marketing team is saying. The legal team wins.
Unfortunately, I don't know what the legal team would be saying - I'm not a lawyer. |

There's an opinion piece on the Chicago Tribune site with the title:
Patrick Kane Supporters: I don't get you.
Sadly, it is behind a paywall.
Darn. |

I think it's risky. But I guess they have a bunch of people mulling the pros and cons both from a PR and legal perspective.
And honestly, if I was a team mate of Kane, I wouldn't be pleased to have him hang around the locker room, knowing that he MAY have raped a woman... "get your poop sorted out buddy and come back later" |

but thats not how things work
say someone alleges you raped someone
no charges have been laid
work telling you to stay home introduces the illusion of guilt.. the employee could very likely take the employer to court

My perspective is they take that decision together, (Kane and the team). Not telling him "you can't come here bro, you're not welcome". |
