c'mon... we can do better than this.
let's switch to "Leafs I loved for 5 minutes"...
to qualify a player must have had at least one game or noteworthy play and played with the Leafs for less than a full season - or along those lines.
a couple come to mind
1) Kurt Walker - called up from the Marlies specifically for the playoff series with the Flyers
2) McCreary ( I believe that is his name) who absolutely destroyed Gretzky - and then mysteriously disappeared
3) Tim Brent - the penalty kill

Who was the Leafs stiff who scored the hat trick against the Habs on the final game of the season, to push us down the draft order?

I would have O Jokinen on mine but I think he was only on the team for 4 minutes, so that's out.

Scott Clemmensen.
Back up goalie for the Devils. Last game of their season, so they sat Brodeur.
Clemmensen wins the shootout (can't remember against who - maybe Boston?) on a beauty poke-check, so the Leafs don't make the playoffs.
We sign him next year as our backup.
Oh yeah, Soctt Clemmensen has got to be on this list.

I think you are thinking about the Islanders and Devils, but it was the Islanders that won the shootout and it was Dubie with the poke check to win it for the Islanders knocking the Leafs out.

Oh poop, you are right again.
Makes more sense. I remember people were upset they sat Brodeur, but it was 100% acceptable - game meant nothing to the Devils.

I still hate Clemmensen!! - Atomic Wedgie
Yep, I remember that game, Devils tied up with seconds left. They had every right to rest Brodeur. If I remember correctly, the Leafs knocked the Habs out of the playoffs the night before.

Carbonneau knocked the Habs out of the playoffs the night before.
If I remember well, he decided to play Huet (who was coming back from an injury) while Halak was on friggin' fire.
Needless to say, Huet sucked big (frank)ing time allowing something like 6 goals.
(I may completely off, but that's what I remember)
Edit: Maybe it was Jacques Martin? Not sure... or even Gainey?
