Seeing the Red Wings bloggers subject matter, how's this for all you non fisty to fisty cuff people;

If a team knows that every player on the opposing team will target their number 1 player if the good players on that team are targeted do you think that would 'deter' shots on the likes of Tanger & Sid just to name a few?

If a team was prepared to go to the box or even take a major to run the opposing teams best as revenge would that mentality stop cheap shots against the top players?

If Doan knew he or OEL wouldn't finish the game because of injury would he have gone that extra step against Tanger? If Staal knew Lundqvist would end up concussed & out would he have cross checked Sid in the back of the head?

Just a query I don't need instructions on fair play & blah blah blah! pure hypothetical.

Eye for an eye. I honestly believe hockey is played extremely fast and decisions are made in a split second and usually not premeditated so no I don't think it would change the thought process. If I was playing and the star from the other team was available to hit I'd take it 100% of the time regardless of consequence. Not saying I'd do anything borderline but I don't think getting my face punched in would change my mindset.

Unless your the best on your team you wouldn't get punched - that's reserved for the best player. Was Staals antics spur of the moment, Rinaldos, Buffs on The Rags player - Miller was it? There are plenty of grubs having time to not do what they do. If a few of the best players had an injury through revenge attacks I truly believe 1 of 2 things would happen;
1. No more poop or at least a lot less in the game
2. Anarchy - uncontrolled with targets on the backs of all good players.
3. - ok there is a third, Bettman would have to 'instruct' the refs to do a better job to prevent anything happening.

It is a rabid fan base where the NHL's war room is located, and it is the home of the IIHF/NHL HHOF. So, yeah, it basically is.

I hear what you are saying, but I'd think the folks in Montreal and Alberta would probably tend to disagree. I guess I always find it rather self serving when anyone declares themselves the center of anything. If he's simply said hockey obsessed, that would have been fine. It's minor Monday morning quibble about hubris...
