Well...hard to argue his track record. He just had a hard time reading the writing on the wall the last 3 or 4 years.

I"'m not sure how this would work; if Glencross, Boyes, Setoguchi would sign a contract with Leafs, could they still be put on Marlies roster without needing to go through waivers? Same for players like Komarov, Winnik, Spalling, Panik etc.; if they are put on Marlies, would they need to clear waivers?
(In any case, if they would be called up, they would need to go through waivers and it seems to me that all these guys have a good chance to be picked up by another team at that time).

ok I understand. Once they go through the waiver process they don't need to go through it again unless they play x amount of game or x amount of days with the big club.
Smith last year was an example of that.

and yes they do need to go through the waiver to play for the Marlies.

LA was another team interested in trading for Phaneuf pre trade deadline.
Leafs weren't willing at the time to take back Richards.
LA is still #1 on Phaneuf's list for sure.
He is a way better fit in a 2nd D-line role in LA as well.
(p.s. maybe Babcock was the guy actually blocking the trade on Phaneuf; you don't know what happened there).
