It's going to be funny when no young players make the team and it ends up looking like the team Burke iced in his first year. Who is this years Frogren?
- AdamFrench

Who cares if these kids stay in the minors? Good for them, if seasoning it what they need.

Yes they where interested in the Leafs taking Richards contract straight up for Phaneuf...

The trade Phaneuf boat has sailed..He will retire a Leaf.

Give it the FK up...Jesus christ...

and one more thing..Mariner will not play for the Leafs this year...

Next year yes..This year NO.

That is all

- Fruitcakenipple

I agree that with the recent camp invites, it looks more and more that this will be the strategy. I do think though that if Marner outplays Boyes, Glencross, Setoguchi etc. in camp, and makes a good impression, he'll be on the team.
We both agree that Marner should make team 2016-2017 though.

Phaneuf is directly linked to the potential failure

Balls to that. Others need to come in and make Dion the 4th best Leafs defender and your fine. Unless he's the fourth best defender because he declines and Gardiner moves up without actually improving. Then you're in trouble.

Boyes for an injured Nolan was foolish

Steen for Stempniak was as well

JVR - Kadri - Parenteau
Lupul - Bozak - Boyes / Marner / Setoguchi
Glencross/Matthias - Arcobello / Holland - Panik
Winnik - Spalling - Komarov

Holland / Arcobello - Beck 13&14 FW

I think Glencross needs to outplay Matthias to get a contract on team.
Boyes will probably make it as 2nd line RW, UNLESS Marner outplays him (significantly) during pre-season (or Setoguchi).
3rd line C between Arcobello and Holland.

I personally feel it's more probable that Boyes makes the team than Glencross; would be difficult for both of them to make the team based on current contracts already on team; let alone all three of Glencross, Setoguchi and Boyes making team.
Not sure what kind of contracts these players can sign, but I assume they all would need to go through waivers.. none of the above players are waiver exempt I think?

- MaximusAurelius

Why do you think they'll need to go through waiver wire when the season hasn't started and the players haven't played in a different league this season.

I don't know how many contracts the Leafs have on the books.

I"'m not sure how this would work; if Glencross, Boyes, Setoguchi would sign a contract with Leafs, could they still be put on Marlies roster without needing to go through waivers? Same for players like Komarov, Winnik, Spalling, Panik etc.; if they are put on Marlies, would they need to clear waivers?
(In any case, if they would be called up, they would need to go through waivers and it seems to me that all these guys have a good chace to be picked up by another team at that time).

Buffalo is still going to be terrible, as will NJ and Carolina. Philly might also be really bad.

Buffalo is kind of intriguing to be honest.

No idea what they'll look like.

I think Eichel will be a positive surprise.
Buffalo as a team won't be getting too many wins though; probably worst goaltending tandem in league.
