Not too worried about these predictions. Kapanen fell down the depth chart in Pittsburgh's prospects also. You really think that defenseman is going to amount to anything? The draft pick is the only hope of any NHL player at all. The Leafs got completely shafted in the Kessel deal.

It's tough to get blue chip returns for even a star player when he's in his big contract years though. And the Leafs are hitting the reset button on the whole franchise anyway. The biggest thing they got in the deal was fifty million in cap space.

Maybe they turn the picks from the deal into something, who knows. If they stick with the draft and develop model and do it well, that will make the Kessel deal irrelevant. Here's hoping.

Basically Kessel can't be your best player. We'll see in Pitt where he is the third best player and not the leader, it could be the right fit. I always liked Kessel but the Leafs needed at least one or two players who are better than him and they had no way to get those.
