There is such a premium on defensemen in the NHL that any team not interested in a guy like Gormley is doing something wrong. It is entirely possible that there is information about Gormley that isn't public or whatever, but he's only 23, that isn't an old player and three are reasons beyond his control he hadn't succeeded.

So just logically, you think there might have been a younger asset to acquire with potentially more upside. I think there is upside to Elliott, it just again comes down to a) older prospect b) doesn't play the position the Coyotes need. At least not naturally.

Just because the Coyotes traded for Grossman does not mean he has more value. The fact that he ended up there actually kind of proves this because almost every move AZ has made recently is questionable. Grossman's value is outdated and he will be very quickly exposed if the Coyotes are going to be as bad as most people expect.

Meh. Gormley is a waste of talent due to all his problems off the ice. Get rid of that cancer in its infancy.

Totally possible that you are right. I was a fan though and I hate to see him go. Might be time to turn some of that forward prospect capital into a highly rated D man.

Could be, there is a lot of D. Just hope Stone Murphy aren't part of a larger trade. I don't see anyone on the Yotes that don't buy into the program so I'd be surprised if that happened.

It's funny you should say that. The fact is, lots of GMs make bad decisions and a players market value is different from his on ice value. Just because a team thinks a guy is undervalued, doesn't mean they'll overpay for him if no one thinks so.

The thing with Franson is a mystery. He's superior to so many players who have long term contracts. Dion for 6 more years? What about the kid the Blue Jackets just signed, five years? He's not better than Franson.

You can act like I'm a crazy person, but I'm not even close to the only person who is surprised by the lack of interest in Franson. Buffalo is getting a sweet deal here.
