He was pretty much the same level of AHL production with a more well-rounded game and the main thing is Gormley is a year younger and plays the left side.
The Coyotes left side after OEL is now Grossmann- Dahlbeck and that is horrible. I don't doubt Dahlbeck can be OK, but I'm better than Grossmann. - James_Tanner
I'm not a proponent of the trade as I'm not familiar with either player, but I can look at the numbers perfectly well and I fail to see anything that makes Gormley appear more valuable than Elliott by any considerable margin. In fact, I'd be comfortable venturing a guess that Elliott can play on a bottom pairing right now based on his solid underlying numbers in limited NHL action and AHL production whereas Gormley is more of a question mark. |

I find this to be the most ironic thing anyone's ever written in these forums. Yeah, it's me who ignores evidence and invents opinions out of thin air. - James_Tanner

He's already better than Dan Girardi. |

And gaining on McDonagh quickly. A year of being in the same room as OEL will make him a superstar. |

JT - I agree with you. This is a bad deal for Arizona. - Ed Stein
Of course it is. Anyone who disagrees just doesn't know what they're talking about, which includes the soon-to-be fired Don Maloney. |

He really is. Hence why we all know he's Clouts. - SirCreepofPasta
You guys would say that about anyone who doesn't write the typical after-bad-trade blog:
"Well, a change of scenery is exactly what they needed, I will take the most optimistic outlook possible because being critical of management will make people think I'm some kind of troll writer."
Measured responses aren't more mature, they're hedged bets.
This is actually a pretty measured blog to be honest, Maloney is an incompetent geezer who has been passed by the game. And again, I like the player we got, I just think rebuilding teams who give up on 23 year old defencemen who have size, skill and have multi-dimensional games are pretty dumb.
And "change of scenery" is a weak, ,meaningless cliche that ain't nothing but a cop out. Like calling anyone half-way different from boring "Cloutier." |

If so, you can't parlay a former 12th pick into something a little better than a guy who plays a position you're deep at? - James_Tanner

To be honest with you, in a city that wasn't just happy to have a team Maloney would be savaged by the writers, but everyone else covering this team seems to give him a free pass. Hiring Claude Loiselle was it for me. |

I agree that the change of scenery is a weak argument, but only in this particular case. Gromley wasn't going to be anything more than a 4th d-man on an ok team. He's Elliot a year behind and that's about it. You need to stop pretending that the only thing that matters is that your views are right and only your views. Hence the Clouts, Clouts. |

I guarantee he didn't offer him around the league. T.J Brennan was a better AHL player last year than Elliott, I'm sure the Leafs would have sent him over. He at least shoots left.

James, I read your blogs.. not sure why (that's my problem).
But this: "Anyone who disagrees just doesn't know what they're talking about"
This is what makes you sound like a guy that full of himself. |

No I do not need to do that. I am pretty open minded just not on this. And again, read the blog, I like Elliott.
Here's why no other opinion matters: on Right D there is Stone, Murphy and Michalek. Which of those is going to sit in the pressbox for Elliott?
On left D, Gormley was our second best option, now we're dressing Grossmann and Dahlbeck.
It just makes no sense to trade a guy who plays a position you're weak in for one who plays a position you're strong in. |
