Two players with zero chance of making it. A classic "change of scenery" last ditch attempt at reviving two disappointing players. We all know how these situations typically end
Tanner - there wasn't a single GM in the league that offered anything of substance for Gormley. I know that making baseless, ridiculous claims, and then blindly defending those claims is kind of your "thing". But doesn't this kinda make you stop and consider that you may have been entirely wrong about Gormley?

Exactly. I'm getting my Stanley Cup parade plans in order as we speak. |

The trade will probably be meaningless as it is two unheralded players. I just find it amusing how you have these preconceived notions about player value without any supportable evidence. - jfkst1
I find this to be the most ironic thing anyone's ever written in these forums. Yeah, it's me who ignores evidence and invents opinions out of thin air.

Is it that Gormley hasn't been given a chance, or hasn't done, or shown enough to earn it yet?
What makes his trade perplexing is that the Yotes aren't going anywhere for a few more years, whats the harm in giving him another year, or 2? - puckhead17
Exactly, what's the rush to trade a younger, better player for an older worse one?
Gormley was absolutely fine until he injured himself and then wasn't very good on his return. His biggest problem was that Murphy and Stone where already on the team.
They do this "we won't rush out young guys" crap and then bail as soon as there's a set back. I totally agree with the guy who called Maloney a clown too. |

Did Gormley see the writing on the wall (not getting a shot this year again) and request a trade out of the desert? - mlindsay
If so, you can't parlay a former 12th pick into something a little better than a guy who plays a position you're deep at? |

What if Gormley wasn't that good Tanner? - WaterBoy
That's somewhat beside the point. Why would a rebuilding team who plans on finishing dead last (because otherwise, what is the point of like their last five moves?) give up on a 23 year old defenseman who plays the position they are weakest at - Left D?
It's not even trading Gormley, it's getting back an older player who hasn't made the NHL for three years. |

Doesn't it get old to troll hockey forums? I mean, it was probably somewhat funny in 2004, but you're the worst. Go away. |

Griffin Reinhart got parlayed into only 2 draft picks and he went fourth overall. I don't think draft position matters 3-5 years into their development. |

And he has had back to back bad camps. He had the opportunity to make a mark and the team to get his NHL spot back, but ultimately dropped the ball.
Still like Elliott, so hoping he finally gets his act together and figures it out. even in his limit call up last year, he was decent. But Bottom pairing decent. He will have the same issues with the Yotes that he did with the Avs. He is more suited for a 2nd pairing role but he wont leap from Barrie and Johnson to grab that spot. If the Yotes are set on the Right side too, he might be in for some work |

Of course it doesn't, it's a sunk cost. Doesn't make it suck less though. And at least the Islanders got a good trade for their guy. Why? Because Garth Snow is competent at his job. |

What's Gormley done to warrant any playing time other than being drafted in the 1st round by your team? He was no more productive at the AHL level than Elliott. |

If they didn't sign Michalek I wouldn't hate this trade so much to be honest. Like I said in the blog, he's the kind of player I'd usually like to acquire. But he isn't going to supercede Stone and Murphy has total-package upside. |

Yeah, for the record I liked the Reinhart trade. I hadn't completely given up on him but he certainly wasn't progressing at the pace you need a 4th overall pick to progress. Nor did he really appear to be talented enough to have warranted being selected in that spot.
Barzal excites me and Beauvillier could be a monster offensive guy if he can hang physically. |

He was pretty much the same level of AHL production with a more well-rounded game and the main thing is Gormley is a year younger and plays the left side.
The Coyotes left side after OEL is now Grossmann- Dahlbeck and that is horrible. I don't doubt Dahlbeck can be OK, but I'm better than Grossmann. |

The Coyotes leap frogged them? So the Coyotes beat the Isles in the finals even without Gormley? I'm going to stick with tanner's prediction thank you very much. |

Av fans are jacked for Gormley. Fully expect him to take the bottom pairing spot. He fits Roys mold and he will be giving him all the chances in the world to succeed.
Elliott will be fine, if he gets PP time, you might be impressed with the way he QBs a power play. Hes really that though, a marginal Dman and a PP specialist |
