he's got two more years of junior Steve

he isnt even eligible to play for the Marlies til 2017-2018

UNLESS the leafs apply for an exemption to the transfer agreement

- Dozzer

I wouldn't be surprised to see him with the leafs next year. We need to see prow he does at camp this year.

If he plays his 2years out with London that certainly doesn't mean he's a bust.

Seems both sides need to calm down?

Rielly was 2 years older than Marner is now when they brought him into the fold
- Dozzer

Reilly was 19, one year older. (a year and 2 months if you want to be technical.)

If it takes him any longer than that he's not the talent u expect to get when drafting #4..
- Fruitcakenipple

he has a point about age though

He would be the youngest player to ever make the NHL??
- Fruitcakenipple

he isnt (frank)ing crosby ffs

you need to stop listening to your own opinions and listen to what the leafs brass are saying.

they are going to take their time and develop their picks correctly

its going to be much more like the detroit model where the kids spend 3 or 4 years being developed before they are even considered for the big club

about time too

Yup. There are no absolute timeline with him imo. We all have opinions that are based on some reasoning. I trust whatever Babs and Leafs management decides.

the state of this team with all the 1 year deals and fact we will be crap; 0 point rushing any prospects, let alone our best prospect at such a young age.

marner (OHL) 2015/16
marner (AHL) 2016/17
marner (AHL/NHL) 2017/18
marner (NHL) 2018/19

thats my honest guess, but ive been wrong many a times.

What Bruce is saying is it's still NHL or CHL....stupid junior hockey agreement saying 20 yo or 4 CHL seasons.
- mykokes

Had to look. 20 before Dec 31.. So he wouldnt be

If its NHL or back to Jr... then its NHL I bet
you cant keep elite players down just for the sake of it.

a LOT of bodies would need to be moved for the leafs to play him on the big club

right now he is behind bozak, kadri, and holland on the depth chart

i doubt the leafs bring him up for a bottom 6 role

If it takes him that long to get to the NHL he should be a solid 3rd line center..

A cheap Bozak for Burn..

He's not eligible for all next year.

Go Ryan stroke on him.... 2 more ohl years, 3rd year starts in the ahl and then he comes up if/when he tears up the ahl.

(frank)!

get it through your head!

its not about talent.. its about AGE

- Dozzer

Ya I understand what your saying.

This year will be great for him. Get bigger and play all 3 zones and hopefully lead canada at the wjc.

But what if the guy goes at 3.0 per game clip and excels in every aspect of the game, it's going to be tough to send him back to jr and hope to gawd he doesn't regress.

So Mariner would be the 1st to make it at 19??...look around the league...

Rielly did it...He would have been better off in the CHL??..

good plan.

Detroit hasn't had a top 4 pick though. And when they have under Hollands watch dating back to 83, Keith Primeau and Yzerman both went directly into the NHL. No, Marner isn't Crosby, but he has a lot more in common with guys like Duchene, Landeskog, Monahan then with any Red Wing pick. Again, the wings have used the 3 to 4 year model with guys picked in the 20s, 30s and 40s. That's it.

listen to what the leafs brass are saying when it comes to development

and since they are the ones who make the call.. i tend to think their opinion regarding player development will be the one that is used
